Honestly don't do your research
Really not worth it if you're intending on using this for ascending or descending. It's too thin and will bite hard on the rope close to peak ascent. Making descending a mf. Go for 8mm... and not 12 inches. Lol. I've only ever used this for demonstration on friction hitches, and gave it a whirl for poor man flip line adjustment (fail)

a little short
As others have mentioned, it requires a fair amount of effort to get 3 wraps around an 8 or 9mm diameter rope.
