Superb
Great tool, especially at the price. Well made and accurate. Faster speed and fine grained wood make the best dowels.

No instructions but finally worked it out...
This is designed to take square stock and create dowels in the following diameters: 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, 16, 18, 20mm.The cutter is a carbide insert with a square profile with 4 sharpened sides before you need to replace it with a standard sized insert. The dowel maker is supplied with a T15 torx wrench to remove and reposition the blade, a hex/allen wrench to remove and reposition the centre boss to select the appropriate size of dowel and 4 screws (1 more than needed) to allow you secure the dowel maker to the bench. It also comes with a 4mm drill bit and hexagonal bolt attached to a woodscrew, the purpose of which was not immediately apparent.I eventually realised after watching the video in the product listing and pausing and advancing frame by frame that the hex bolt/screw combo allows you to drill and screw into the end grain of your wooden stick before running it through the dowel maker.Previously, I'd have just shaved the end of the stick with a pocket knife before chucking that into the drill chuck but this does save a little time.Finish off the jig is OK and with some judicious use of higher grit sandpapers, the finish can be made much finer should you be looking to use the dowels created in an exposed setting. Personally I plan to use this to make an assortment of different dowel sizes to create contrast in some of my woodturned pieces.Happy to recommend but might suggest that the manufacturer include at least a picture of the jig in action with the hex/woodscrew attachment to save some head scratching with anyone less au fait with the process.

Do they sell replacement blades?
This dowel maker works well. I only tried the 10 mm one-without any issue at all.I don’t have any problem with this jig-at the moment. But at some time in the future there could be an issue. This is a type of plane, with a blade that will need sharpening. Okay, all four sides can be used, but eventually it will lose its edge. What happens then? I’ve looked for replacement blades, I don’t think they’re sold separately. And how do you sharpen something so small; a jig would need to be made to hold the blade. Some would say I’m being picky; but for the sake of a 20p replacement part there is no option but to dispose of the jig when the blades wear.
