For Saltwater - Good for Tanks with Few Rocks
This is basically a very porous rock (pumice, I believe) that houses a lot of bacteria to process toxic Ammonia and Nitrites and (some) Nitrates. I considered buying pumice and using that instead but then you don't know what chemicals are used and this is fish tank safe so I went this route. I used this in my 29 gallon Aqueon saltwater tank in a hang on back Coralife Marine Filter with Protein Skimmer. It worked well and I had no issues with Ammonia and Nitrites. I used this in conjunction with Seachem Stability and added a clownfish from day 1 with no problems. I stopped using it though when I realized that I had enough porous rocks in my display to handle the bioload and repurposed the space in the hang on back for other things. Some people use this in a Quarantine tank but I think using a sponge and disposing is the safer route. I believe this is a solid product for Freshwater tanks and the larger pond version for larger tanks and ponds, but not as useful for Marine tanks with enough live rock. My batch came with some black obsidian and I emailed Seachem about it and they sent me a generous bag of Matrix to make up for it. Great customer support!

Long lasting and good quality!
I added this in my canister filter in with the media that came with it, along with some purigen and my tank that had some issues getting my levels correct, cleared up quickly. My levels are and stay good now, as long I manage my water changes and cleanings pretty regular. It has helped cut my cleanings to every other week with 25% water changes. Love this stuff.

Has enough surface area to keep my turtle tank cycled
I use Matrix in my fish tanks, it does a great job. What is amazing is that it also works in my 55 gallon tank that holds two 6-inch red ear sliders. Turtles poop a lot! Some people say that a turtle tank can't be cycled, but mine is thanks to Matrix. I used the whole 500 mL bottle in my canister filter and I do 80% water changes once a week. Ammonia and nitrites stay at 0. Matrix is the best biological filter media out there.

Nice media, larger chunks than I thought but works well in larger HOB and canisters.
Bigger chunks than I thought and would not fit into my smaller (20 HOB) filters. But I'm using it in the larger filters and in-tank as media-bagged substrate and it works great. It's been in there for several months and has yet to disintegrate or get gross. Nice media!

Miles Better than the Stock Ceramic Rings in my Filter!
It says you need 1liter for 100 gallons...so I put 1.5 in my 46 gallon! I have never shown ammonia or nitrite since the week I started my aquarium, and even then using this stuff in conjunction with their "Stability" rapidly established my media and has been running tip top ever since. I constantly clean the outside of the media in my change bucket to keep algae off the bag and I have yet to have a "mini-cycle", which shows just how deep in the rocks these bacteria are. Only bio-media I will ever buy for my aquariums, period.

Great product
Great product. I had a 14 gallon bio cube and tossed the bio balls and replaced it with matrix. After cycling the tank I added about ten mollies. I had two unexpected batches of mollies from other tanks and after a few weeks I put the fry into the biocube as well so that I had about 30 fish in total almost 2/3 of them were juvenile. Way overstocked! After two weeks I went to do a water change and was sure that I would find ammonia and nitrites through the roof. But I was quite surprised that ammonia and nitrites were negligible. I'm replacing all the ceramic tubes and bio balls and other media in all my other tanks with Matrix!

I've had terrific results with everything Seachem makes and the Matrix is ...
I've put Matrix in two canister filters now (a Fluval 406 on a 55-gallon and a 106 on a 10-gallon) and while I can't really say that it's the "best" biological media I can say that it certainly does what it's supposed to do. I've had terrific results with everything Seachem makes and the Matrix is no exception. I packed my media baskets full of the stuff and let it go to work. All the water tests have come out just as they're supposed to so I'm left to assume that it's doing its job and that bacteria is happy in its little home. Some may argue that Seachem is charging a premium for nothing more than pumice but ultimately I don't care what it is as long as it's working and it's clearly working.

I recently setup a new desktop 30 Litre tank for nano fish & shrimp. The tank was setup from scratch. A week in and even though the water parameters were pretty good, 0 Nitrite & around under 20 Nitrates, my ammonia wasn't coming to 0 but would stay around 0.25 PPM. That however is not lethal in most cases, but I wasn't able to come to terms with it. Ordered matrix, for the first time ever (I almost always use lava rocks as bio filter); and within 24 hours - my first reading of ammonia is at 0. In my experience it is too fast, & it it too good to be true, maybe a fluke. But I will keep testing to ensure it is the Matrix. For now 0 Ammonia.
