Versatile; won me over
This silly thing won me over with its quality production and versatility. ;) Seriously -- well-made, Self Pro.I had initially bought it to work out in. TBH, I think it is not _great_ for that. It's a bit heavy and hot for anything but actual cold weather, around your neck and the back of your head, and you have to really pull it way up the back of your head to get it not to drop down off your nose and mouth, and even then if you're really working out -- running hard, etc. -- it's not very stable. I might gently suggest to the good people (non-ironic, this; that is my impression, too) at Self-Pro that they soften that part of the sales pitch. If you have it beneath a helmet or held up while on a vehicle I bet it works, but as _workout_ gear it's not good.So I almost returned it. BUT! I live in LA. We all need to wear masks. I don't always want to strap on my I-am-Bane carbon filter thing; plus, there are times (even in LA -- say, of a cool evening) when it's perfectly nice to have a thing around my neck. And there WILL BE times, I imagine, where it's even nice to have the cap part up (that hasn't happened to me yet, but give it time. We're going to be in this moment for a minute, I think.) For THAT purpose -- this has been, for me, an exceptionally well-made and designed device. It's convenient and works great for that purpose; it's not nearly as fussy or I-am-Bane as my carbon filter but it satisfies public and personal requirements to minimize risk to others' through my exhalations, etc.So if you took off "workout" as a possibility, it would get 5 stars for versatility; beyond actual hard workouts, it strikes me as very versatile. And most of all -- this is why it still gets 5 stars overall -- I like wearing it. I like it. It's comfortable and nice. It's a well-made, well-designed thing that's a little unusual. So this is a happy 5-stars for a product that, I'd argue sliiiiightly based on its sales pitch, I'd initially misused. You cannot really use this for hard, hot workouts (unless they're the kind where a helmet or other equipment is holding it up, I guess; and your face and neck need to be hotly covered anyway. I can't really imagine what kind of workout that might be (cross country skiing?), but it may exist). But it is a _nifty, useful, nice-to-wear and evidently well-constructed thing._ I'm glad I didn't return it, and to have it, and to be thus now writing this positive review.

Warm....yummy!
Love this! We get inversion every winter, and man does it get cold here sometimes! I wore this today, multiple times, in the middle of the inversion, at 14 degrees F, and my face didn't freeze at all! I was only out for 10 minutes at the most, so don't know about long term, but I certainly noticed the difference since I've had it. I also work where there is a terrible wind all winter long; this really protected from the wind also. I'm not saying it didn't let any wind through, but it was a huge difference! This keeps all areas that are covered warm and I love to be warm!! My ears are super sensitive to wind and this doesn't let any blow by; it's amazing; no earaches for me! I can't stop smiling and being amazed at how much warmer my whole head, ears, neck, and face are wearing this thing! I would advise you to get one, or more, would make a great gift for anyone who hates the cold and feels it worse than other people! I'm not trying to be fashionable, just warm, and this does the job. I had a fleece one before and it was just too loose to be warm, resist wind and cold; this is tight to the head and a great material; I'd love to get a body suit out of it for a base layer! This has been my favorite purchase for cold protection along with my Terramar sock liners for my whole life. I'm 47, so that's a long time to search for warmth! Enjoy!UPDATE 1/28/17Today it was 5 degrees F with no wind; I wear glasses so I can't wear this over my nose. I was out for a short time, 5-10 minutes, and could definitely feel the difference between my nose and parts under that were covered. My nose was freezing; the rest of my face was warm. I do wear a hat over this, but it does such a great job keeping my face warm.

Head cover for winter use
I ordered this Windproof ski mask because I am an aerial photographer. I have been doing this for 45 year and I have accumulated more than 10,000 hours of flying, during that time. When I shoot my 151 million pixel, PhaseOne, IQ4, medium format, camera system, the doors are off the helicopter and fixed wing airplanes. I am often shooting at 12,000 feet above ground, in the winter. It gets to be about 10 degrees F, at 12,000 feet. I always wear ski gloves, a thick snow boarding ski suit, a heavy Nomex fire-proof flight suit and a full, 4/3mm wetsuit. I can still move freely about the cockpit, with all of that on. Those layers keep the wind from penetrating to my skin. I will use the new Pro Balaclava Ski Mask to cover my head and neck areas. I need to wear a set of head phones, for pilot and client communications. The Balaclava ski mask is thin enough to allow the headset to be worn, while I shoot. It is not so thick that it would interfere with my voice commands, to my pilot. I can still bring my camera up to my face and frame / focus on the subjects outside. I can't really wear a hat, hoodie or stocking mask, while I am in the helicopter. So, this will keep my head warm. I have been so cold that I could clap my hands together, many times and I would not be able to feel ANYTHING! Even with the cockpit heaters on full, there is no getting around 10 degree cold.It arrived in about 2 days and it fits perfectly.
