I don't even want to think about how long ago this was, but back when my sisters and I were growing up, there was always a pile of clothes that needed some type of mending. My mother was always up to the task, a herculean effort that somehow, no one ever noticed. I cannot remember one shirt or pair of jeans that she mended over the years, but I do remember the scissors she wore around her neck like a huge pendant on a chain, always professing the quality of the Gingher brand, and declaring that keeping her four little devils neat and well-dressed was a job that took the best tools available. Anyway, those scissors went to my younger sister when my mom passed on, but the brand name has lingered with me. Now, as the women in my life will tell you, I am about as far from a needle and thread kind of guy as you can get, preferring to allow my clothing to age as ungracefully as my body has. So when I went looking for a pair of scissors earlier this year, it wasn't to cut the cloth for a new shirt I was making for myself, but to upgrade my somewhat eclectic tool kit that year after year, has been with me, in the trenches, as I have ventured into the hostile territory of my household environs, and fought the maintenance battles and wars that are common to any homeowner. So during my last couple of skirmishes, I found myself outflanked by an uncooperative piece of canvas that needed trimming in the first incident, and in the second,an old rubber hose that had the nasty habit of losing its fixture. In both cases I found myself reaching into my tool kit for a pair of scissors to make a clean cut through heavy resistance. The absence of that tool got me to the web pages of Amazon, and it was there that the name "Gingher" reemerged from my memories. That old pair of scissors Mom used all the time. But those were sewing scissors, right? Well, the more and more I read about the Gingher brand , in the reviews on this and other sites, the more I believed that it may be the tool I needed when neither a knife or a pair of heavy duty sheers would do. So with fond memories of Mom, I purchased this little dynamo. And now I know why she used, (and wore) this brand.These scissors are crafted with high quality chrome covered nickel that maintains a sharp edge fit to cut more than what Gingher says they're made for. They are small enough to maneuver within close confines but strong and sharp enough to perform their task cleanly, and efficiently, leaving no ragged edges to deal with later. Since adding them to my old tool kit, they have already helped me out of a couple of jams and have quickly shed the moniker "rookie". I'm glad to have them, and thinking about some of the chores I have worked on over the years, I only wish I had added them sooner. "Yeah, Mom, You were right. . . Yes, I know you get what you pay for. . . Yes I should have listened to you more often, . . . Yes I know you do. . .Yes, ah, I do too. . . Ah, not now Mom. Please! Not in front of all these people."

These are such great quality and they have a good weight to them. I won’t be using them for fabric but wanted a good pair of scissors for my crochet room. They cut so nice and come in a leather sleeve. I love that they aren’t too big so I can toss them into my notions bag but they also have a good grip for adult hands.

You can never go wrong with a pair of Gingher scissors. Extremely well made, knife sharp edge. With proper care they will last for many years. A good investment for any crafter or sewer.
