A Very Good Buy
Far better than one might expect. Pleasant action, nice tone, good intonation. Looks like a toy but is a musical instrument. Stays in tune and is easy to play. The dolphin shaped bridge is a nice touch. Clearly better than many instruments costing more. I changed out the strings to Martin M600 Fluorocarbons (just a personal preference). Purchased 8-9 months ago.

Dolphin Bridge Soprano Ukulele
Bought this beautiful ukulele for my girlfriend. I was pleasantly surprised at the good quality, especially for a relatively cheap, $40 ukulele. Really good for beginners. It's heavy plastic body feels really durable, and it allows for louder sound. I bought a wooden Makala soprano ukulele for myself, and it plays significantly softer than the Dolphin. Overall good product, and definitely recommend.

I bought this ukulele as a gift for my mother. Being from Hawaii and having grown up around music I knew it would be difficult to find a quality ukulele for a beginner learner at a reasonable price. I think I researched sixty different ukuleles before purchasing this one. I determined that for a soprano ukulele this was an idea size and was solid enough not to feel flimsy. I also wanted to get something that was visually different and the color and the whale shaped bridge seemed fun. I received the after 2 weeks. Thankfully I ordered it earlier then usual because the 7-9 day shipping turned into 14. It came inside two boxes, an outer rectangular box and an inner Ukulele shaped box. The instrument was inside the "case" which is a very flimsy polyester material that I think you would have to replace if you were worried about damage. The instrument was in good shape and looked exactly like the photos except the blue is slightly darker then the photo. The body fits perfectly for a small adult/child. The tuning heads are plastic and function well. The strings NEED to be replaced if you are a serious musician. The original strings constantly need re-tuning after two months of use, at this point stretching of strings should have stopped so they just seem to slip out of alignment easily, even mid use. Once you replace the strings you are good to go. It has a high tinny sound, very circa 1960's Hawaiian vacation sounding. I think this is a good product for a beginner. By far the best priced decent Ukulele. If you want something to really improve on though as a serious beginner you may want to invest into something you will be happy with in the future. As for my mom she is strumming away happily.

Great first ukulele
I've always wanted to learn how to play the ukulele so I looked around on the internet and found that this one is a common beginner ukulele. I absolutely love it! It's adorable and well made for the small price. My only negative comment would be the strings it comes with but I just recently changed the strings on mine and it sounds so much better! Definitely a good beginner ukulele if you want to learn to play!

Beautifully crafted
Beautiful construction and color. Perfect size for toddler arm length. Strings looked like they were good quality. Would be even better if it had a case.

Love the Kala Makala Dolphin!
The perfect size and price for a beginner uke. My daughter loves the color and the wooden dolphin. She not only picks it up to look at but likes playing it. The instrument is not a toy and has remarkable intonation as well as solidly constructed.. Love the Kala brand and the Makala Ukulele.

I can see myself buying a few more
I now own four of these dolphin/shark bridge instruments. I use them with children -- except for one that I put Aquila Nylgut strings on, and which I tote around with me. I'll often just pick it up during the day to play for a few minutes and it is always fun. Not only is it rugged but it puts out a decent sound as well. All of my Makalas hold their tune well. Of course, as with most ukes, it takes about a week for new strings to stabilize. I do have some higher end ukes but people are always more amused when I pull one of these bright colored instruments out during a performance. It's everything that an ukulele is supposed to be -- fun, playable, and unpretentious. They have wood tops, injection molded bodies, a solid mahogany neck, and geared tuners. This is a great entry level instrument that you might find yourself going back to even as you advance.

... you're looking to start learning then this is a great little instrument
If you're looking to start learning then this is a great little instrument; however, you WILL need to have it restrung as the strings that come with it are awful to put it lightly. Be sure you purchase a tuner to go along with this otherwise you'll have days when things sound off-key. Well, they are and that's the point of the tuner. My 10yr old has enjoyed this and my 5yr old has expressed interest in playing now too. I'd recommend this for the beginning player but if you want something with better quality and sound, this is not the choice for you.
