Attractively designed with passable output, but there are much better options.
This is listed as a TANLUX EM223 on Amazon but appears to be manufactured by Zhongshan Mingzhiyuan Lighting under the model CM223 when cross-referencing the UL certificate number on the spec label (E503137). For what it's worth, the "CM MZY" brand also sold here on Amazon appears to be directly connected to Zhongshan Mingzhiyuan Lighting. Unlike the terrible performance of their exit signs, this unit appears to be usable.According to the manufacturer, this unit has 3W optics backlit by SMD 2835 LED chips. However, the spec label printed on the unit states each optic is 1.2W, which seems far more likely.Build- and appearance-wise, this is an attractive unit. It has far more visual appeal than the standard generic unit with square LED heads. The plastic seems to be sturdy enough to withstand general use.On this product page, TANLUX claims this unit delivers 200 lumens per optic. To test that claim, I chose to compare it to a Dual-Lite EV4D-02WAL, as it's the unit I have readily available delivering the closest to a 200lm/optic rating (actual rating 248lm/optic). As you can clearly see, the CM223 is nowhere close to the advertised 200lm/optic published on this page. However, the output delivered is just enough light to know you should avoid the box of Christmas decorations and bench sitting against the wall on your way to the exit. A unit like the EV4D-02WAL pictured that delivers 200lm/optic would not only let you clearly see the bench and the box, it would provide enough light to have a seat on the bench and read the box.Because this unit doesn't deliver the published lumen rating, there's absolutely no way the advertised maximum mounting height of 18' on the spec label is anywhere near accurate. For optimal performance, I'd avoid mounting this unit higher than 8' with spacings not to exceed 15' between units. If you want something closer to the advertised light output, I'd go with the Dual-Lite EZ2L or the Dual-Lite EV4D-02WAL showcased in the side-by-side comparison shot above. The Lithonia ELM2L and Sure-Lites SEL25 are also good options if you want to get close to the same output. This TANLUX unit would be good for guiding someone out of a small area like a restroom, but if you're working with a larger area, some of the other options I listed should be considered.
