Non- stop action, with plenty of thrills and spills.
Perfect book for those who want a story with non-stop action, a real wild, chaotic adventure and it would certainly appeal to those who love blockbuster action films; in fact I imagine it as a screenplay. The script is bursting at the seams with wise cracks, a little too glib at times, but if you love reckless adventures and an all action hero, then Nick Craig in Devil's Run is the choice for you. Nick certainly uses up all of his nine lives and doesn't always come off best. There is a little romance, (a bit more would have been preferable). There are plenty of thrills and spills; overall an enjoyable but frenetic read.

Damaged and Lovable?
What do you get when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? To answer that question, Hughes introduces us to wise-cracking, fatalistic, self-destructive, yet totally believable, Nick Craig. From the onset, we know Nick has a past that haunts him, and that demon has been rearing its head, affecting his life, his job and his encounters with just about everyone. While that may be a recipe for unemployment for most, Nick's boss makes him an offer he would love to refuse. What is described as a routine case is anything but, and Craig finds himself getting deeper and deeper into a tangled web of intrigue and non-stop action. Hughes gives us a character who is not afraid to poke fun at the entire espionage genre, without losing hold of the storyline and credibility of the plot. We are led down one dark tunnel after another, only to find ourselves opening doors and windows into the soul of the character we thought we couldn't grow to love. There are no punches pulled and several we may not see coming, but in the end, the story works brilliantly, and we are left wanting more from a damaged and lovable Nick Craig. Give it a try. You won't be able to put it down.

I see potential with the Nick Craig line of books.
Surprised. Book was actually quite interesting. Sometimes things are too easy for Nick Craig but as Hughes is a fairly new writer I am willing to let that pass.

Lots of action with plenty of humor
Devil's Run starts out with Nick Craig, a PI, looking into the disappearance of a wealthy businessman's son. However, as the story takes off and the reader learns more about Nick and the background surrounding the disappearance, you realize there is much more than meets the eye. The book truly turns into an adventure with many twist and turns, The story is James Bond-esque, but without the gadgets and with much more sarcastic one liners. Nick is relatable, but not so much that he is just another everyman. This book could easily be made into an action movie, but I personally enjoyed Hughes writing style and would instead settle for another book about Nick Craig's next adventure. Although the ending is satisfying, I wasn't ready to close the page on Nick.

Bettr as movie..
Would be good for a movie script! A little bit too much action for a book.

Action packed
This expression usually deals with movies. W8th the descriptive action scenes and plot twists this is what this should be. Well defined characters makes for people you can understand, but not relatable. A good read, I even went in late to work to get some more chapters read.
