7Penn Self-Closing Black Gate Hinge 2-Pack with Installation Screws and Swing Adjuster Tool – Outdoor Vinyl/Wood Fence

Great hinges. The gate can swing 180 degrees. Pins were easy to set for the tension. The screws are quite big and require a specific square bit on the screw driver. I needed my gate to swing open either direction and these hinges worked out perfectly.

I used these 7Penn hinges to replace the somewhat sturdy, but unadjustable, hinges used by a 'professional' fence installer. The gate is somewhat wider, and thus heavier, than a standard gate, and began to sag within a few months after the 'professional' installation. The new 7Penn hingers are substantially sturdier and have considerable adjustment capability. I am very pleased with the installation, and saw immediately how I would adjust the hinges if the gate does sag again (which I don't think is likely with these hinges). The adjustable tension auto-closing capability is also very good.

The product seems well-made, looks nice, and had all the screws included. But after installing, it wasn't closing my gate well enough. And after tightening the closer, the screws started pulling out of the gate, probably because I wasn't able to install properly because the gate boards were too thin for me to screw the inner part of the bracket. I can see it working well if the posts and gate allow proper installation and the gate is not too heavy.

These 7penn self closing hinges worked great for me. I needed a pair of strong hinges for a heavy duty wooden gate that was to open all the way back so I could duel purpose it. Nice adjustable tension. Nice adjustable extension on each hinge too. My existing post was not exactly straight so the ability to extend the lower hinge or a bit more than the top one made the gate level, and also leaves a comfortable amount of fudge space incase you short your gate. The screws that came with it were not what I needed. Each project really requires specific screws anyway.

These are very nicely designed hinges. Easy to install. As long as your post is level you really can't go wrong. Easy to adjust. They are shipped with self tapping screws, made for vinyl. fencing, garage doors etc. So if your gate and posts are wood you will need to purchase some wood screws.

Bought these for every gate installed (7 gates). My gates were huge, so ended up using 3 for each. Love the adjustment so when the gates sagged over time, just adjust the screw.

Hinges are great for adjustments as the wood shrinks after aging or gets wet and expands. I wasn’t sure if the weight would be too much but they’ve held up great. Much easier to use than standard fixed hinges. Only drawback is they provide short self drilling screws meant more for metal I think, I had to buy longer laf screws for better support. Have purchased more since my first set.

Easy to install and adjust. Strong enough to close the gate in a stiff breeze. Excellent value and a good price too!
