Excellent carrying system for heavier camera setups, but not cheap...
I wasn't impressed by the price of the Spider Pro SCS, but having now used this intensively over the last week or so whilst on holiday I can say it is one of the best camera accessory purchases I have made.I'm using a Canon 7D MKII with BG-E16 Battery Grip, and a Canon 28-300mm L-Series Lens so the weight of the overall kit is pushing 3.5Kg, which is a lot to have hung round your neck when travelling, especially considering that the length and weight of the lens doesn't really allow the camera body to sit flat against your chest with a neck or shoulder strap. With a few trial and error adjustments for fit, I have the belt sat above my actual trouser belt and the natural weight of the camera allows it to sit comfortably over my hip and thigh with limited movement whilst walking.I'm still getting used to the feel of the camera, and I do tend to keep checking to make sure it's locked in and stable; nobody likes the idea of £4K worth of kit just falling off! So far though I've had no major problems except leaving it fully unlocked once which was a bit of a scare...For frequent intermittent shooting when travelling; such as long walks through City Centres with stops to capture some of the local Architecture, the Spider Pro SCS makes it easy to just hang your camera in between shots, and the quick release catch does mean you can quickly bring it up at short notice. The only problem I had was the zoom lock on the Canon 28-300mm (with it being a plunge zoom) was a tightening ring rather than a lock switch, so I had to leave this tightened up when using the Spider Pro to avoid the lens extending and snagging, but this is a lens issue, not a fault with the SCS itself.tl;dr In summary, I'd have loved this carrying system to have been closer to the £45-£55 price range, but having now used it I'd definitely recommend it.5 Star product, but only 4 Stars because of the relatively high price...

Great desingn.
This belt like camera carrier has been in use with me for a number of years now and has been amazing. Attach almost any weight of camera, long or short lens and with the flash gun in situ onto the Spider and it will sit there all day as one goes out walking and exploring. But that isn't the full reason for this bit of kit, your camera is there at a moments notice. It just slides off the holder, up to the eye any you are framing the shot in seconds. There is a locking mechanism on the holder which is useful if scrambling over rocks or going up and down steep slopes or to stop the odd light fingered person in a more public/crowded place. When you carry your camera over your shoulder or around your neck it becomes very tiresome as it swings around or from side to side causing you discomfort in your neck or shoulder, you'll soon become fed up with it and put in in your bag/backpack where it isn't serving any purpose and take an age to recover it from. The Spider system holds the camera upside down with it's lens pointing backwards therefore less chance of damage to the front element.Overall It was a great purchase for me.I have only one negative to say about the system, once one is wearing it you loose access to ones right hand trouser pocket so do not leave something in there that you'll need.

One of those products that does exactly what it says.
I've used Black Rapid shoulder straps but found in some situations the strap could get in the way.A new solution needed.Tested with a Canon 1Dx and 70-200 F2.8.In with the Pro system (it includes all necessary bits to start plus a spare Allen key and screws).Build - Solid. The metal parts are all high quality and seem to be machined from single blocks, including the main bolt. The the belt is again high quality and is easily adjusted.Initially it seems strange to wear but this soon disappears. The camera and lens sit as described flush with the body.Release and lock of the camera is simple but efficient.Very little movement when walking, no bouncing against the body and surprisingly comfortable. However with several grands worth hanging on it I tend to hold the camera not quite ready to trust it completely.....I suspect I'm being very, very cautious.

Quality
Great idea to save carrying a heavy camera in a bag or round your neck and very easy to get to, for me I did find it heavy and unbalanced and not a good fit but i am of slight build so may be I just wasn't the right fit for that peace of equipment, on the whole a very well built piece that many keen amateurs and professional photographer's would do well to add to their kit.

Better for my back!
I have always been happy using neck straps but due to a bad back I have had to look for an alternative. I'm really pleased with this, I've only used it once but it's brilliantly designed and the camera feels safe. It's going to be very useful shooting events and sports when I want the camera ready to use. For me it seems like a reasonable price to pay as it is supporting around £4,000 worth of camera and lens, so I need to be confident that it is well-made and secure.

I love this spider pro
I love this spider pro. I used to use a shoulder strap but since trying this i wouldnt go back. No more aching shoulder from carrying a heavy around all day. The camera is totally secure as well. It is a bit expensive but worth paying that bit extra i suppose for the quality than risk a cheaper belt breaking and losing an expensive camera.

spider-pro unsuitable for Sony A77?
This was submitted in error because of a fault of mine but I'll leave it in case anyone else misreads the instructions as I did. Please see the subsequent comments. ORIGINAL COMMENT: "Can anyone help please? I've just bought this and it seems to be incompatible with my Sony A77. 7 attempts to ask for advice on Spiderpro's website using the "contact" form always results in "error, please try again." The problem is that the rear screen of the A77 needs to be folded up to fit the spiderpro mounting plate and then the screen will not fold all the way back again as it is stopped by the plate's left hand mounting lug. A spacer between camera and plate would work if a longer screw were available - but I can't get in touch to find out! The battery compartment is also covered by the plate. I saw no warnings on the website that the product might not be suitable for all DSLRs/DSLTs. Has anyone else had these problems please?"
