Everything you need to start a mason jar starter
I like that the parts don't have large no-name logos on them. I wish the color wasn't red for the spatula but whatever. I use mason jars for sourdough but not having the lip makes it easier to get at the good stuff and not leave starter behind. It's easier to stir. Straight sided mason jars rock! The thermometer sticker you place yourself. The band is awesome for seeing when you last fed your starter and measuring when it doubles.

Easy to use
Follow recipe and online recipes for sourdough. Works well for marking dates/times. Feed once a week now. Use cast off to make muffins. Use active to make bread.

It ok
Can’t really see temperature on the gauge. Very faint. Don’t think it’s really worth the cost. The spatula is really good but that’s it.

You Don't Need To Spend $20+ For A Jar.
You can use any jar without the temp gauge and marker where the growth starts. That's all this is, a jar, a temp gauge, and a marker that also gives you a reminder of the day and time that you did the day's start, along with a cheese cloth for a cover.I purchased mine because making bread from a starter is new to me and I didn't know what I was getting into. Now I know. Don't waist your money! It's just a jar with a cheese cloth cover. Knowing the temperature in you room is good enough, and I just, even with a bad memory, can't imagine needing a reminder of something I did 24 hours before. I brew beer, and I make a note on my chalk board the start time and date, because it takes days even weeks before it's done and it's useful to keep track of timelines, not a big deal when your starter is a 24 hour process.

A little small, but a nice set
This sourdough starter set came encased in foam which kept it secure and intact, something I appreciate since I've had other glass jars not arrive so well. It includes a nice silicone spatula that has a long blade for scraping the sides of the jar, and it is long enough to reach the bottom with room to spare at the top for gripping. It also has a couple of nice tools that I've not had previously and appreciate. One is an elastic band with days and time printed on it so you can mark where your starter was on the date and time, and then you can see how long it takes to double. This will really help in determining how often you need to feed your starter, and remind yourself when to do it. There is also a thermometer sticker that you can attach to the jar that will help you know what temp your starter is so you know whether you need to have it at a warmer or cooler temperature, depending on how slowly or quickly you want it to expand. Sometimes at warmer temperatures it grows so fast I can't keep up with using it. But when I put it in the refrigerator, I can forget to feed it. Between the two helpful tools, I should be able to keep track of it better. The jar comes with an aluminum (I think) lid, as well as a cloth cover that's sort of like a thin burlap. It will be enough to keep dust out, but let the sourdough breathe and gather in the yeast in the air, helping it develop better. And finally, it has a little instruction sheet with a basic sourdough starter recipe. I prefer my own recipe, so probably will not use the one included, especially since it calls for rye flour, which I do not typically have.I think I would have liked the jar to be a little bit larger, but hopefully it will be big enough for my needs. I do also think the price is a big high, considering the lower quality of the jar itself. But I only took one star off, mainly to balance the price with the extra tools that will be a help. Now to get my starter going!
