Works and fun to practice soldering.
It works. It was fun and good practice to put together. It holds the memory as long as you do not remove the batteries. So, if you record your own tune, it will hold until that happens. I ended up giving this to my niece. All the parts worked for me. Not sure how reliable the buttons are. Pretty good for the price. Speaker seems loud enough. Everything worked out of the box.

Good practice
Fun kit that let's you get to practice soldering. It works after completion if done correctly.

Was quick to assemble and worked better than I was expecting
I gifted this to a 15yr old for Christmas. He had no problems putting it together, and according to the feedback I got back from him, it works much better and has many more musical options than I was expecting. He was very pleased with it. This guy is somewhat musical and plays several instruments, so that he likes this playing with little piano, too, and all it has to offer musically, is saying something.

Spotty success with this, one worked partially, another not at all. But does have good music!
I bought one of these to practice soldering. Not all the buttons worked. However, the preloaded melodies were really nice. Thought maybe my bad soldering was the problem. If I twisted the board a little everything worked. I tried desoldering some parts and got a little further. So this did show me my soldering was partially to blame. Since I liked the music I got another one. Was not successful with the second one out of the box. Made sure not to get cold solder joints, but alas, total silence. Gave up on it eventually. So I'm giving it a 4, because it is relatively less expensive than other similar items and has nice preloaded music. However, I suspect something about the board and/or chip is low quality, so I can't quite give it a 5.

Simple kit, did not work
This was the fifth or sixth solder kit I ordered. My kids and I enjoy putting them together, and we've had 100% success, up until this one. I've put heat on much more critical components in other kits, and they've always started right up. I believe this one's a dud. There is not much to it to go wrong, so I'm not sure what I could have done better. Checked all possible points of failure and resoldered the speaker and battery wires to no success. It's the battery box, the buttons, and the speaker, that's it. Did I burn up the speaker? I doubt it. But now it is garbage. Too bad because this one would've been cool. It bugs me that I can't say why it failed.

Cool prohect
This is a fun little practice project. Works well for determining you skills and development of how much flux, steady hand and eye sight.

Good soldering practice, but didn’t work

Thought it would be interesting to build this and keep up with soldering techniques. Unfortunately the only thing to solder on this board are the buttons. Not much for polishing up soldering techniques. After assembling it the sound quality and function isn’t the greatest. Save your money and get something a little more interesting to build.
