The Wisdom of the Body: A Contemplative Journey to Wholeness for Women

We are gloriously made!
This book is a happy combination of both contemplative living for the soul and our body too.It invites us to enjoy the senses of our body and let our soul savour the delights of the Divine. To be free to enjoy music, to sing & dance with joy. We need not be any "perfect" body, for we are gloriously made. Women especially need not pursue what the modern ideal is for us. Christine shares the great good for us by showing how we can find fulfillment. Exampleslike the Blessed Virgin Mary & St. Hildegard of Bingen, we are free to pursue our deepest desires. Our bodies are our temples. We need to accept ours & rejoice that it holds our soul. The Divinegives us both to enjoy the blessings of this world with joy!

Great book for small groups
Currently using this book with a small group of women whose ages span four decades. The book's organization, suggested activities and balance of group discussion and private introspection have made this a great tool for us. So many wounds are being healed...lots of laughter and tears. I highly recommend this book.

Thoughtful, nourishing, grounded
Christine Valters Paintner's newest book is a thoughtful collection of nourishing resources for deepening body awareness in a spirit of contemplative mindfulness. Her materials are well researched and grounded in her own experience, yet gently accessible to women who are seeking greater healing and integration of body, mind and spirit.

Book of wisdom
This inspiring and well written book has given be so many things to contemplate that I plan to continue the journey by rereading this book from the beginning. Many self help books are so general in content that they merely suggest where you need to be. This book contains real substance and specific ideas to help you get there. Highly recommend!

This is the most introspective and profound books on the connection between our body and soul that I have ever read. The authoris brilliant writing with words that are at times poetic and inspirational and using words of wisdom from a variety of traditions aswell as Christian scripture. I recommend it for anyone seeking truth and harmony within as well as a compassionate understandingof others. The author also has an awesome website Abbey of the Arts and offers a course using this book as text.

This book is beautifully and heartfully written. I find the practices and Christine's words and guidance so supportive of my reconnection with my body and the deepening of my connection with Spirit. I am so grateful to have this gift in my life and I now recommend it often to my own students.

...listening, knowing, caring and cherishing ourselves is are requisite to doing the same for others
A treasure of a book - made moreso by using on the retreat that the abbey of the arts offer on this subject. I found that learning to listen, know, care and cherish myself is a gift, and a pre requisite for doing the same for others.
