unfortunately my car's stereo unit was not happy as it would spit out a warning message thinking ...
Purchased this as I began using a Thieye T5e 4k Action Cam as my dash cam as it has dashcam features (auto on/off, 2min video segments, & loop record), and at the time of this review only cost $99, so making it the most highest quality dashcam you can have at the cheapest price. Anyways, I was connecting this camera to my car's USB port from my navigation unit, as a cigarette lighter/12v accessory port is not available, however due to this camera being primarily an action cam, I found when I did this, it recognized my Stereo/Navigation as a PC, so it would think it's being plugged into a PC/Mass Storage device so it would prompt me with a menu when plugged in, rather than start auto recording. I also tried the trick of modding a usb cable and cutting the data sync lines, while this worked with the camera, unfortunately my car's stereo unit was not happy as it would spit out a warning message thinking that something is wrong with the USB device and as a safety measure had disabled the USB port, thus causing the camera to shut off. So that's where this EDO Tech USB direct hardwire device came in handy.. it allowed me to send power to my camera through a USB cable without the need to rewire my camera's installation and without any issue. the only hiccup i encountered is, in my car, the fuses aren't conveniently located within the interior of the car, instead they are located under the hood.. so this made the process of tapping the EDO hardwire device with a fuse tap kit impossible unless I drilled a hole or found an access to the engine compartment of my vehicle.. so since I didn't want to do this, I found that I could just tap off the power and ground of my Car's navigation/stereo unit as this was within the voltage and amperage range that the EDO device takes, worked out great!

Works for my uses, definitely not for more power hungry devices.
This is serving its purpose charging a cheaper android no-contract phone I use exclusively for the Torque app in one of my cars. I'm sadly unable to provide any power output figures, but the cheap phone continuously increases in battery % while having the screen permanently on and reading bluetooth data nonstop. My LG G3 however complains about slow charging (does this with anything <1.8A in my experience) so there's that... I actually lose battery doing this same thing. So yeah, I'd be a little disappointed if I were primarily using this for my LG G3, but it serves its purpose. The wires however are stupid thin and you'll have to delicately remove some of the black sheath the wires are in to get any usable length.

Nice Product - works fine for iPhone XS
This little converter, once installed (and that was no easy task in a 2017 Toyota Sienna), works great for charging my phone. I placed it up near the top of the dashboard so it is close to my phone holder. This way I only need a 12" charging cable to reach the phone and it is out of the way of other controls and the shift lever. While I like it I'm curious how long it will last; the wires for installing it are long enough to reach most anywhere in your dashboard but they are of a very smallish gauge. I wired mine to the back side of the (switched) antiquated cigarette lighter port. Getting a good connection with click-lock style connectors required doubling the wire over for a good contact. Before purchasing I was concerned that is might not meet the sometimes elusive requirements of a new iPhone but it charges my iPhone XS quite well. All-in-all this is a good product allowing additional placement or relocation of a USB port for charging phones, or tables. Recommended! NOTE: this review asked for an "easy to Install" rating to which I offered a 4 star rating due to smallish wires. Your install might be easier than mine or harder ... only you, your location requirements, and your dashboard can determine if it will be an easy install or not!

Works as intended, plenty of cable length
I used this to install a dash cam in my truck. I didn’t want to have to plug it into a 12v-to-USB socket and have the wiring permanently visible on my dash. The amount of cable included was more than sufficient for my installation. There is a red LED inside the box that comes on when it is connected to power and ground. It was helpful to know that I had made good connections. I chose to solder and heat shrink my connections for long term reliability. The USB connector worked without issue. Overall it is a good value and worked great.

Works for older phones, but not newer ones
I used this for the past few years with my older Pixel phones and it worked just fine. Recently I upgraded to a Pixel 7 Pro and the phone won't charge when connected to it. Google's official car charger (from iOttie) is 30 watts; I'm no electrical engineer but I'm pretty sure that 1200 mA at 5 volts is a lot less than 30 watts. So, be aware of your device's power needs before buying this adapter.

Perfect for my aukey dash cam. Like having an extra usb port if need be.
I used this to power my aukey dash cam. I liked having it hardwired yet giving me a usb port for my dash cam. I specifically wanted this type of hard wiring because my aukey dash cam is capacitor based, hence when I shut my engine down, camera does not get juice. I can't have a battery backup because I live in extreme heat, hence the capacitor based dash cam. Well when I am not in hot weather, I can simply unplug my dash cam (since this is usb port) and plug in a power bank to record while I am away from my car. Also this give me an extra usb port to charge electronic items. I ran the wires into my glove box, thus my glove box now has a spare usb port when opened. My only minor minor complaint was the the positive and negative leads were really short. I had to strip down the rubber sheathing to get separation between the positive and negative. Look at the image and you will understand what I am talking about. I wouldn't know why people would not want to hard wire their devices this way, because it gives people the option of an extra usb port for juice when needed.

It's been installed since a few weeks and no problems. Crimped a low profile mini fuse tap which is set over the 12v socket 15A circuit in the fuse box and the dash cam has performed consistently so far. The most interesting thing about this adapter kit is the USB-A female voltage output. You can plug almost anything you want as opposed to other hardwire kits that restrict you to a particular USB type plug that is specific to your device, such as mini or micro USB. Most dashcams and similar devices come with a USB-A male cable, like the Garmin Mini2. If ever I want to try another device, I won't have to re-do the tap. Just plug and go!
