in this case we have a combination of two best of the crop USB3 chips
OK so Startech is an unusual brand. They do not employ huge marketing department and you will not see them in every shop, because they cost rather more than typical Chinese electronic and do not appear to have catchy unique selling points - unitil you look into detail. For example, in this case we have a combination of two best of the crop USB3 chips: Renesas uDP720201 (4 channel USB3 controller for ePCI) and uDP720210 (4 channel USB3 hub). Each connector is protected by a reasonably sized capacitor. The bracket features 4 ports past the hub and 2 ports attached directly to controller. On the inside you will find another single port attached directly to controller (the last port of the controller is driving the hub, obviously). You could buy cheaper USB3 controller obviously - but it wouldn't have this many ports and also, most likely, it wouldnt have this quality of components. Of course you could instead buy another Startech controller, 4 port where each port is driven by a dedicated Renesas chip for ultimate performance - useful if you need this much bandwidth. I did not, and wanted maximum number of port instead. It works great. One point to note: due to orientation of USB3 sockets, the USB plugs will fill space of PCI bracket with very little tolerance left. Be sure to plug an USB cable/device/anything into the bracket ports before you close the chassis, otherwise you may need to re-open your computer and readjust the card later.

Won’t fit Fractal meshify 2 case if in the bottom PCIe slot.
Great product, installed flawlessly but unfortunately I couldn’t access the usb ports in my Fractal meshify 2 case - it would be fine in any PCIe slot except the lowest one, but that was the only free slot I had available.I have returned it and ordered the 3+1 usb port from StarTech instead as the ports are arranged vertically.

Works as intended 5 stars
The last USB PCIE card I purchased worked for about 3 years then it just would not work any more I left that USB PCIE card a positive review but now I had to purchase yet another PCIE USB card let’s hope this one works far longer than 3 years as something like this should last a good amount of time if not then it is not good is it.So, we will wait and see as this was an expensive USB PCIE card it should be a lot better than my last PCIE USB card which cost £32.Anyway, this StarTech works as intended flawless operation it even shows in device manager all my connected devices are recognised. So I am very happy with this product thank you StarTech 5 stars.

Died just out of warranty
Had the card running daily for just over two years and now it has given up. Not what I expected from startech, this card was not cheap.

Bought less than three months ago, this product caused problems from the start. I came to dread rebooting the PC since more often than not, the card would cease to function - no USB activity at all. Re-seating the card seemed to be the initial answer - but on the next reboot - no USB. Today, whatever I do - no USB. Very unsatisfactory.

It expired!
I've used assorted StarTech products for a few years with no issues whatever - until now. This excellent card was working fine for two years and three months - which is three months outside the warranty period, dammit.Power stopped being supplied to the internal USB port, rendering the card useless.I'm not going to buy another one - it's cheaper to rethink how I'm plugging in USB peripherals.
