It does. They are essential parts of electrolytes.

Q: what's the production date? how long is its shift life?

Don't have production date, but shelf life is up to 2 years. My current supply doesn't expire until May 2015!

Q: Once they're mixed, how long do these rehydration packets such as Pedialyte last in the refrigerator?

I’ve always heard that pedialyte (in a bottle) once opened, is only good for 48hrs in the fridge. However, after you open it you can freeze it, put in airtight container and store for 6-8 months.

Q: can I occasionally give my 4 yr old this, if he doesn't drink much water ?

Pedialyte is used to replace electrolytes and when talking about using it occasionally for a 4 year old who doesn't drink much water I would recommend asking your pediatrician.
