BONANZA! One of the most beloved and iconic series of all time is presented for the first time in this special edition box set. Every episode in this collection is full-length, with original music and has been completely remastered and restored from the original 35mm film elements for superior picture and sound. The spectacular Ponderosa Ranch and scenic vistas filmed at Lake Tahoe, Nevada and majestic locations in California and Arizona have never looked better. This multiple award-winning series was created and produced by David Dortort and stars Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker and Michael Landon, plus appearances by Victor Sen Yung, Ray Teal, Bing Russell, David Canary, Mitch Vogel and Tim Matheson. Re-live and cherish all your favorite episodes with BONANZA: The Official Complete Series. (The story quality of the latest episodes still hold up. BONANZA didn't run out of steam; the network hit the "panic button" and pulled the plug prematurely when ratings dipped.) And the extras! Extraordinary in abundance and quality, accompanying episodes on every disc plus a brand new DVD of only special features. My thoughts on the special features bonus DVD are that I found it to be simply brilliant. It provides a plethora of excellent material that unquestionably justifies not only the cost of the box set but also reinforces the notion that any true fan should own it! The combination of the bonus DVD, enhanced picture quality, and the existing special features surpasses my expectations. It leaves me feeling like I have paid far too little for such an extraordinary experience. The audio/slide show of the last party (held just days after the cast and crew found out NBC cancelled BONANZA with two day's notice, in the middle of production of what became the series' last episode) is my favorite segment on the bonus DVD. I feel as if it grants us, as devoted fans, the unique opportunity to assume the role of a proverbial "fly on the wall." We are able to immerse ourselves in the intimate moment and witness their interactions and emotions firsthand as if we were present in the room with them. It provides us with a captivating glimpse into the lives of this remarkable group of talented individuals in front of and behind the camera who worked side by side for 14 years, forming a close-knit family in the process. The camaraderie and deep connections they developed over the years was apparent as we observed them navigating the waves of disappointment and sadness at the sudden cancellation. Throughout the audio, we hear Lorne Greene and Mike Landon speaking from a place of friendship rather than as infallible heroes, emphasizing the authenticity of their connection and the shared sentiment of loss. And I loved the Telescope episode (which I have been tirelessly searching for over the past two years after catching a tantalizing few minutes of it on the online CBC archives). This segment not only provides fascinating insights into a day in the life of Lorne and his co-stars on the show (actually several days of filming a BONANZA episode), but it also grants us a unique behind-the-scenes perspective. It offers a glimpse into the multitude of shots and the intricate work carried out by the dedicated crew week after week. It instills within me a deep appreciation for the immense effort invested in producing such a phenomenal series. In my opinion, others will also relish this extraordinary bonus feature, as it highlights the extensive team of individuals involved in bringing BONANZA to life. The primary reason for the realization of this landmark series getting first class treatment is the vision and dedication of one persistent individual who won the support of a major distribution company (Paramount - CBS Home Entertainment). The same person who oversaw the release of GUNSMOKE: The Complete Series on DVD, and the DVD releases of all seasons of THE HIGH CHAPARRAL. Undoubtedly, Executive Producer Andrew J. Klyde must be receiving countless accolades for his latest work, and I am pleased to add my sentiments to the list. He truly has outdone himself this time. The dedication and unwavering effort he has poured into creating the BONANZA box set are clearly evident in the final product. It is apparent that Andy possesses a genuine love and loyalty for classic television programs, which shines through in every aspect of his work. I do not doubt that Andy has done justice to the cast and crew, honoring their contributions with utmost care. I can imagine moments when he had to fight tooth and nail to ensure the best possible outcome, preserving their work in all its glory. As an avid fan, I can confidently say Andy has not disappointed. The sheer magnitude of his hard work is palpable and greatly appreciated. And I cannot recommend this set highly enough!!!! Review: A “MUST BUY” for Any Bonanza Fan! - This set of DVDs is very well done and worth every cent! Each episode is crystal clear and beautiful. I am so happy I bought this set and if you like Bonanza you will be too!

Worth it
This show is great. The DVDs are high quality, and the packaging is substantial enough to protect the DVDs. Not to mention, Bonanza is just a fun show to watch and rewatch.

Excellent TV Series for all generations
Excellent TV series for any generation that enjoys westerns with good values. After you get past the first few episodes of season 1, the morality and righteousness of the Cartwrights shine through in every well-produced episode. The production quality is stunning, considering that this was a weekly TV show! Each story is very well-written, engaging and feels like a mini-movie. Excellent acting by the main characters and guest characters. I HIGHLY recommend this series for anyone who likes westerns, or wants to teach their sons (and daughters) about bravery to stand up for what is right in morality and helping others.

A “bonanza” (pun intended)
A good price for this collection, esp since original music has been retained. A good series to watch on those long winter evenings.

An Unbelievable Value
I purchased this set in July of 2024, and I must say that all of the discs contain a brilliant transfer of the episodes of the original series. Virtually EVERY one of the discs I have encountered have not been anything less than perfect. Even though some of the discs were stacked on top of one another to make them fit in the boxes, it had no adverse effect on the picture, sound, and overall quality of any of the episodes. A couple of the discs momentarily froze, however, a quick fix to this was to wash the disc under cold water, dry it from center to edge in straight motions, and it was back to normal in a jiffy. I could not be happier with my set, and it is a wonderful addition to my other sets, Gunsmoke and Rifleman. It was, as far as I am concerned, nearly perfect in every respect. The price is right, and I would highly recommend it to add to your collection of fine Western series!

Here it is: - Your ticket to escape the 21st century. For those of a certain age who remember good old-fashioned wholesome television (compared to today’s feeble-minded rubbish), here is your opportunity to wallow in nostalgia and forget (at least for a while) what a mess the modern world is in. This is nothing less than a magical time-machine, which takes me back to my 1960s childhood, looking forward to next week’s episode. Well, now you don’t have to wait. Great stories, great characters, great scenery, all in living colour. What more can you ask? The picture quality is very good indeed, considering it started 65 years ago. In fact, far superior than would have been seen in the original broadcasts. Filmed on 35mm colour film, it could have been made yesterday. The extensive extras are also a fascinating insight into the making of the series. One thing that emerges from the many comments of his fellow actors is how well regarded and liked Dan Blocker was. A gentle giant and unpretentious gentleman who died tragically young at the age of 43. Was Hoss's head really that domed shape?! Producer David Dortort (who also produced The High Chaparral) was also well liked by cast and crew. There is a vast array of familiar guest stars, in fact too many to mention. All looking much younger! And the burning map opening titles and memorable theme tune are just great. Get it and you won’t regret it. For UK viewers, remember this is a Region 1 DVD, so you will need a multi-region player. It’s probably worth getting one just for this. Also, if you need subtitles, for the first season only, the ‘SUBTITLE’ button, on my DVD player did not seem to work, but I was able get CC Closed Captions (a similar thing) via my DVD player OPTIONS menu, Closed Captions sub-menu and selecting CC1. From season 2 onwards, however, the normal subtitle button does work OK. I would also recommend Gunsmoke - The Complete Series.

Wow! Complete set of Bonanza episodes what more could a baby boomer boy want? Great packaging rapid delivery deleriously happy. What surprises me is how well Bonanza episodes hold up half a century later. Great casting well-written great directors and high quality pictures on screen.

This is a review of the Complete Bonanza box set. I've only had this for a couple of weeks so I can't state that all discs play correctly. I did go through the whole thing to visually inspect that there were no missing discs or duplicates and things seem fine. It's not as large a set as Gunsmoke, but it's big enough. Picture quality is about the best you'll get from DVD. The colors are good and all episodes have subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. All 431 episodes are on 112 discs, with no more than 4 episodes per disc. If you ever get through those there's a bonus disc with the following content; Bonus Disc Mike Landon visits Sweden Telescope: Greene’s Bonanza Soap Box Derby featurettes: Excerpts: The Long, Happy Race -- Narrated By Lorne Greene (1962) Excerpts: "Sideline.. ? Or Starting Line?" - Narrated By Dan Blocker (1964) The Cartwright's visit Sesame Street (1970) Lorne Greene comedy routine: An Evening at the Improv (1981) Michael Landon Q. & A. with Vikki Carr and The Tonight Show Audience (Audio With Side Show; 1973) Public Service Announcements with Dan Blocker and Lorne Greene (1968; 1975) Rare Bonanza Episode Trailers with Cast Intros “Mighty is the Word” (1965; introduced by Lorne Greene) “Dark Enough to See the Stars” (1967; introduced by Michael Landon) “The Prince" (1967; introduced By Dan Blocker) Rare On-Air Advertising 1959 NBC Fall Preview 1961 NBC Bonanza Promo-- narrated by Lorne Greene 1967 NBC Fall Preview -- designed By Bill Feigenbaum 1972 Chevrolet Billboard Announcement Mariette Hartley's Memories (2011) Take 30: Lorne Greene Interview Michael Landon: The Last Interview (Audio with slide show; March 1991) Lorne Greene Appearance: The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson (1972) Michael Landon: The Last Shot - Farewell on the final day of filming (1972) Bonanza Company: The Last Party (Audio with slide show; 1972) Bonanza Blooper Reel Bonanza Bonus Photo Gallery Pernell Roberts Appearance: The Ed Sullivan Show (1965) NBC: The First 50 Years -- Salute to Bonanza (Segment narrated by Orson Welles; 1976) You can see from the pictures included in the information on the set how it's packaged. There are usually 3 discs per spindle in the cases. I have no problem with that packaging - any more than 3 discs per spindle can become a bit annoying. All in all it seems to be a well presented box set and it'll probably be the best quality available for collectors, unless the Germans decide to release it on Blu-ray as they have done for The Virginian.
