Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Ultimate Wilderness

Good book but arrived damaged
Upon receiving this book I had a tear in the cover at the bottom (tear through the cardboard of the cover almost like something slammed against the bottom edge of the cover and pushed part of it inward) and had a large crease in the back cover of the book. The crease only appears to be on the printed part of the back cover and not through the entire cardboard. The corners of the book were also worn. The pages of the book were pristine. Deducting 1 star for condition of product.Apart from the physical appearance of the book, the content is superb. The idea of plant based characters is intriguing. Gives a completely different aspect of play. The added variety of classes and archetypes covers many different character types. The options given to the player are endless.

Great Content, Well Worth the Buy Even if the Shifter is Why You're Sad.
Although the shifter class may have some issues and can arguably be overshadowed by the original druid class itself, it does the job it is supposed to well. A good GM will be able to work with their player and help buff the class if it really is that necessary. I take the idea behind these campaign settings as suggestions and not the "letter of the law." The book has plenty of great material to make up for the Shifter class' supposed disappointment. It's worth it if you have a very open world with a lot of area to explore and you want to make your PCs actually work hard for their progress while maintaining a deeper level of intrigue. The new race options are also quite interesting and are fun to play around with. Have fun and keep on!

The shifter is a complete joke of a class
This book is complete trash.A sample of what you'll find1: The shifter. The class worse at it's job than a druid with 9 wisdom. Anyone who says this class with only the content is this book is good is just bad at the game. Play a hunter or druid or one of the archetypes of other classes that get shapeshifting abilities.2: A feat that lets you make animal sounds. In one favored terrain type. Yes, what most people considered a survival or know.nature check is now a feat3: Nerfs! Snowball is reprinted with a stealth nerf (loses it's save or suck, is now evocation). Lore Warden gets stealth nerfed into the ground by a designer who forgot how combat maneuvers worked.4: Dry content designed to fill pagesThis book is quite clearly an indication that the guys at Paizo are phoning it in. It's full of plain terrible game options that received no playtesting. If you want flavor, buy Spheres of Power for shapeshifting instead. If you want decent rules options, cherrypik of d20pfsrd like everyone else. If you want a decently put together firstparty hardback, buy any other Paizo book. Yes, even the ACG.

Great new addition to any campaign
Overall, this book was excellent. The Shifter class, while being a major draw of the book, is far from it's best feature. The book's best features are the new rules. The new plant races are unique and don't feel redone, several of the archetypes are excellent and encourage new ways to play old classes, the feats are interesting and add new abilities, and the new companions and companion abilities are a great addition to any game involving players with familiars or animal companions.

You cant go wrong with this one!
Ultimate wilderness may be the best hardcover release from pathfinder in years. This book is full from front to back on elements for DM’s and Players alike. The new shifter class is an interesting idea especially for druid players or those seeking a native American shaman character idea. There are also 4 races detailed in this book which are all very interesting especially the Leshi. Also the number of class options for previously existing classes is staggering and amazing, 1 class is just called the Dino Druid, guess what they do? Spells and feats are here as well and are of the usual quality. Where this book really shines though is in 3 sections. Its detailed breakdown of the fey, the first world and druid religions, the new gathering mechanics for poisons, herbs and other items and finally in DMing a game set in the wilderness. This book is so useful it really is hard to break it all down in a review but if you play pathfinder you cant go wrong with this one.
