Glad for the purchase
Having always considered a prime lens the pinnacle of sharpness and bokeh I was surprised when using my first proper telephoto lens on just how good they were. The lens I tried was the sony 70-200mm f4 OG and since using it I fell in love with the focal length. Unfortunately the lens I tried had some dust as it was purchased used, and despite it not having any impact on optical quality, it annoyed me. When having a look around for similar lenses I came across this lens new, on offer and I had just received a bonus from work. Purchased. I am looking to start a photography business where this lens would be absolutely vital for 90% of the work and therefore a necessary purchase. It is exceptionally well build, but twice as heavy as the f4 counter-part. This was a concern before using the lens, and now that I have taken it around with me for some hobby shots in the new forest hand held there are fewer concerns about its weight. I didnt really notice the weight difference due to having to hold the camera and lens with both hands and is actually well balanced. The auto focus is quick and reliable, but does make a very slight noise when focusing (the f4 was silent!) however this is only noticeable in quiet environments. Image quality is very special, in my opinion, as it produces very natural and sharp images with a non clinical characteristic. There is something special about the images this lens produces. As the lens is f2.8 the boken and subject separation at any focal range is marvellously blown out, but at 200mm (slowly becoming my favourite focal length) I love it. I have programmed the buttons on the lens to enter apsc mode for when a little bit of extra range is required and the remainder of the switches on the lens have been set to the setting I want and it will be unlikely for me to change these. The lens hood is well made and has a reassuring click when in place and the lens is weather sealed. The main use for this lens will be for weddings and ceremonies and believe this will be the main work horse along side my sigma 35mm f2. Love the lens and so glad that I am lucky enough to have bought this new.

Best lens ever
Yes it’s heavy but it’s fantastic. And it’s expensive. But it is a great lens , sharp pictures . I have not used any of my other lenses since having this lens. I am glad I purchased it.

This lens is something special
The output of this lens is something else, the quality of render, bokeh are stunning. The sharpness is outstanding, and has fast autofocus (Sony A1 30fps compatible) you can also manual override the focus at any point too. I use it for video and photo and couldn’t be happier. Only downside is the weight but doesn’t bother me.

An absolutely phenomenal lens
Light, fast, sharp, accurate, weather-sealed. So happy the focus doesn't have to extend out. 3 stabilization modes. Proven winner in all kinds of weather. Definitely top of class in the G Master series. Bought this for sports photography. Hasn't disappointed in various light scenarios. Totally capable of wide open shooting at 1/1200s without abnormaly high ISO.

This lens creates the best images from a 70-200 lens I have ever seen
After investing into the sony e mount range, this lens was my next step. My wife covers me in shooting the 24-70 nikon, and she wishes to stick with it. This lens creates the best images from a 70-200 lens I have ever seen. It is only after using this lens you sense an anger towards canon and nikon for the lack of innovation and groundbreaking technology sony has managed to conjure. The bokeh is pleasing for a 2.8, the lens is sharp! It is on the heavy side, i may suggest using some form of strap attachment to the lens because I have heard of one sony strap ripping off due to the weight of this lens from a user. The autofocus however leaves a lot to be desired, you need to know the limitations of this lens although eye af helps, out of 20 fast moving shots, around 6/7 will be in sharp focus and an extra 4 maybe can also be used. With the nikon I know I nailed the shots pretty much 99 percent of the time. Also this lens has a tendency to hunt, it is not a quick lens by any means, hence you have to know its limitations. I would rather use a 85mm batis with a bride walking down the aisle then trust this lens. Buy but be aware, although it produces the best images you will see, the af is slower then nikon/canon systems!
