It needs to be at least cooked in the food / warm liquid.

Q: Is this good for thickening in pies?

Any starch will thicken pie filling including eggs. I tend to pick a starch that would be from something you might find in deserts such as tapioca. So in answer to your question yes this will thicken pie fillings but it obviously ha to be cooked or baked to thicken. I tend to cook the filling prior to baking it to make sure I get the desired consistency.

Q: So is this good for making your own boba for boba tea? I've been wanting to make my own, but trying to make sure I grab the right stuff.
