Bright enough for any tracing needs without causing a headache or eye strain and it is rechargable.
I did tons of research and waited for this to get back in stock. I chose this because it is rechargab;ed and I'm not tethered to an outlet or power bank in order to use it. Youtube is full of reviews comparing every other light pad to the Cricut and they rave about the Crickut simply because it is bright. Too damned briht!!!!! The reviewers stack on numerous papers to prove you can see thru more paper. I don't need to stack up 5 levels of paper and the only reason the Cricut can do that is because there is nothing on the screen to protect your eyes from that bright light. It gave me a headache and made my eyes hurt just watching the youtube videos. There is no way I could possibly stare at a light that bright for more than a few minutes. Unless you feel the need to put multiple layers of heavy cardstock or super heavy watercolor paper on it, the Crickut will just result in eye strain. This works great even thru 4 layers of heavy watercolor paper or several layers of heavy cardstock. Cricut is made for crafters and scapbookers. This one works better for professional applications such as drafting or fine art and you can look it at for 4 or 5 hours without causing eye strain or headaches. I love love love it. I may buy the tempered glass to put over the screen but right now the self healing mat works great. There are only a few brands that can be recharged and, after looking at all of them, I chose this one. It is wonderful!!! I see no reason why anyone would need a bright bright blinding light to trace thru 5 or 6 layers of heavy card stock. I do a lot of work with wire and I can just put the wire on the mat and bend it to the shape I have already sketched on paper. I also do watercolor and oil painting. It will even allow you to trace your sketch on paper onto an art canvas. Who needs to trace on anything thicker than heavy card stock or the heavest of heavyweight Canson water color paper. Highly recommend this one. It is more than bright enough for any practical tracing need without making you see stars dancing in front of your eyes and it doesn't cause a headache because it is too bright to look at for more than a few minutes. It gives a soft but bright light thru light blue to protect your eyes. It also provides enough light to satisfy quilters trying to trace shapes.

If you sew, craft or quilt - You NEED this !!
After watching a webinar on the Cutterpillar, I decided to add one to my "over-supply" of crazy sewing "stuff". I'm so glad I did!! When it arrived, I took it out of the box and looked at it to make sure that it worked. Then it promptly went back in the box and sat for months - unused and almost forgotten. When I started to work on a quilted wall hanging, I ran into a major problem. The matching backing was exactly the same size as the panel. HOW do you get them pinned together precisely with a larger batting layer in between?? I remembered my Cutterpillar. Soooo easy. I laid the first corner of the backing (right side down) on the Cutterpiller, followed by the larger batting piece, and was able to see through it and perfectly line up and pin the front panel. I just scooted it over & up & down and was able to pin all the layers exactly together.I was even more impressed when I needed to cut out pairs of Christmas stockings. The pattern fit on the Cutterpillar and I was able to lay the fabric on top & quickly cut them out with my rotary cutter. Since the Cutterpillar comes with a rotary cutting board, the task was accomplished in record time. I'm definitely a fan and will be using it again soon to trace some pieces for applique. If you sew, quilt, or do crafts this is a definite "Must Have" item and the more you use it, the more uses you'll find for it. It's super light weight and very well made. I love the fact that this model can be used "wireless" and has three light settings. As soon as the carrying case is "in stock" that will be my next purchase. Highly recommended !

Game changer
I have been piecing and quilting for over 40 years and as my eyes get older, it gets harder to see the fabric line and the lines on the cutting rulers. This light board is amazing!! I wish I had bought it sooner. Even at the lowest light setting, it is bright enough to see what I am doing. My cutting is so accurate now that it scares me. I stood and cut for 2 hours yesterday because I just couldn't stop! Just amazing! Highly recommend. I did buy the gridless cutting mat and have not tried the gridded one that comes with it as I did not want the interference of the lines on the mat with the rulers. Update, I did try the gridded mat that comes with the Cutterpillar and even with rulers it works fine. It doesn't cover the entire Cutterpillar like the ungridded mat so it does cut down on your cutting area but I did find the on/off and light brightness switch more responsive with the smaller mat as it doesn't cover the switch. Overall either mat works wonderful.

Very Pleased
I have a different brand of light board the works ok, but I've started doing applique work so I needed a much better product. I wasn't sure I really wanted to spend a lot of money, but in this case I'm glad that I did. It makes it so much easier to do applique and it can easily be used for other crafts.

Too sensitive
I love everything about this, it's big and lightweight and works wonderfully for my foundation paper piecing, tracing patterns, etc. My one issue is that the power button is so sensitive that if i bump it, it changes the light brightness up to and including turning it off. It's annoying.

also works fantastic for assembling diamond dots panels.
Love the varying shades of brightness. Took it to a retreat and I know a few others doing diamond dots art prints will be ordering. It was a game changer for reading the small numbers in varying light. I would pass it to other people in our group and they would stay up late at night working on images. Of course, assembling them so fast now that I will need to order more.
