works very well in shade or part darkness. I like the vertical as well as horizontal, and I like the downward direct dot for accuracy.

This is a decent unit that, despite some minor issues, is a good value for what you're spending on it.Pros:Lines, when used indoors, are easily bright and visible.The self leveling feature is nice, although not perfect.The case, usually an afterthought, is actually pretty well made.Cons:Not bright enough to use outdoors.Almost has to be used with the tripod for detailed work.Requires a close reading of the instructions.Overall, this isn't anything I'd be using if I were a contractor or building a structure. But for little jobs around the house, hanging paintings, etc. it is more than adequate. It's useful, but I'm not going to be throwing away my bubble levels anytime soon.

So, far I see good things with it.. since a buddy has one and I need to use his and well..... I order one ... The line of I need for is for concert rigging to place lighting truss / Audio speakers in place for shows... and with the plumb bob leveling I'm able to see how much steel cableling I need to use to hang a bridle / dead hang .... the top dog laser was a PLS ...but, the quantity has gone down and well for half the price of a PLS ...

This is a good news/bad news story.First the bad news:When I opened the box, I saw no visible damage to either the shipping box, packaging box, or the laser level itself. However, upon picking up the laser level, I heard rattling inside. I tested it, and it worked OK, but I was concerned about what was going on inside the level, so I decided to take it apart. After doing so, I found a broken piece of clear plastic, which is part of what I believe to be an internal support (see photos). I contacted customer support via the manufacturer's website, and waited...and waited...and waited for a response--which never came, even after a week. At that point, I initiated a return with Amazon, and that went flawlessly. Based upon this experience, I'm awarding three conservative stars based upon finding internal damage that is inexplicable and the total lack of customer support.Now for the good news:This level really works well and is a lot of fun to use! It is auto-leveling, which is a HUGE benefit. I'm not sure how any carpenter or home handyman can live without one of these. I'm just not sure I'd buy THIS one, based on my lack of confidence in the product. Of course, hopefully your experience will be better!

I bought this one intending on using the cross sectional and the vertical top and bottom "plum bob" laser as much as I've used this handy product it has saved me time across a few jobs now. Instead of breaking the bank to purchase a heavy duty one this one works accurately and effectively. Extremely satisfied with the budget choice on this.
