Essential kit for working on sensitive electronic equipment!
This anti-static mat and service kit is essential when you’re repairing or building electronic equipment containing components sensitive to electrostatic electricity. Electrostatic electricity can destroy computer processor and memory chips used in a wide variety of equipment. I used this kit to repair my classic Bang & Olufsen Beomaster amplifier/tuner - its very rare (and expensive) micro-processor and memory board inside an anti-static and anti-RF sealed box needed a replacement soldered lithium battery. Scary stuff, but with this anti-static kit the repair was 100% successful. Would not have attempted potentially disastrous task without this kit! This Lindy anti-static service kit uses the principle of “grounding” which ensures that static electricity is safely discharged to the earth terminal of your mains socket. This is much safer that the simpler idea of “bonding” where a wrist strap is connected to the chassis of the equipment on which you’re working to discharge the static. Bonding is not recommended for working on expensive, sensitive equipment. The Lindy grounding system works by connecting the conducting mat via a 3-metre earth cable fitted with a banana plug and crocodile clip to the earth terminal in your mains plug. The mat then connects to an adjustable wrist strip to drain any static electricity from your body. This is the only way to ensure your equipment is completely safe from electrostatic discharge. This Lindy anti-static mat is very made well made and big enough to work on comfortably. It has two large storage pockets and folds up neatly to fit into a 150 x 220 mm (6” x 9”) zip-lock polythene bag.

The perfect portable package for the beginner or professional alike
Bought this to repair an old Mac Pro. This is the perfect portable package for the beginner or professional alike. Folds up nicely back in its box. Good quality mat and wrist band with a 1.5m cable for connecting to earth. This is a simple thin anti static mat and not a mat one would use to solder on. There are two press studs on the mat to connect the wristband and earth to. Very happy.

If you are looking at a one time repair/upgrade/build then this mat is sufficient
I purchased this mat and was sceptical at first. I had read the importance of removing static etc when working on the delicate parts of the computer and thought this mat might not be big enough. Let me tell you the mat is big and has the room for all the components, a tool kit, me the helper, lol. Its quality is ok, but might not last over many repeated. The mat comes with a anti-static strap and I got an extra with my tool kit. If you are looking at a one time repair/upgrade/build then this mat is sufficient, however for those who are looking to utilize this mat over and over again, a better higher quality mat may be preferable.

Does what it say's on the tin.
I have never used anti-static equipment in the past nor was I sure how much to expect to pay for something of reasonable quality. After issues with my new motherboard on my last PC build I decided not to take any chances when I got my replacement. I was very pleasantly surprised. For the money paid I am pretty impressed with the quality. I was expecting a thin flimsy mat, thin cables and a cheap and nasty crocodile clip. This couldn't have been further from that. It comes with a quality mat, cables, strap and crocodile clip. I had no issues using this kit and it was exactly what I needed. Would recommend buying this kit.

Nice quality product
Had a few of the cheap ones and to be honest they are a pain, dont fold well to put in your bag and the wristbands are often loose and wont tighten which kind of defeats the point of anti static precautions, this one is good quality, folds up nice and then lays flat, the cables and wristaband supplied look good quality and look like they will last.

Lindy Anti-Static Service Kit
I bought this to replace my old 'pro' anti-static service kit which was on it's last legs due to years of use, dirt, wear and tear taking it's toll, so I decided it's time for a 'cheap' replacement for occasional use and I took a chance on this due to it's low price (the pro versions can cost well over double or triple what this one costs). The quality of the materials on this Lindy kit is poor unfortunately and it's construction isn't good when compared to what professional service technicians use, BUT, it's reasonably ok for occasional use. If you use this kit regularly, then expect it to wear out/fall apart extremely fast. This 'service kit' is NOT suitable for soldering work on ESD sensitive components due to the vinyl it is made of, my impression is that if a blob of molten or even hot solder falls on it, then it will go through it like a hot knife through butter. The material used is cheap thin flexible vinyl which is about the thickness of light craft paper (my old pro one was double layer 3/4mm thick and hot solder proof), unfortunately I can't test the Lindy mat's ESD properties yet due to not having an ESD meter to hand, but looking at the grounding wire and strap it should work fine (I don't know about the mat through). The wrist strap has a 1MΩ resistance built in, probably through a resistor in the wrist strap snap fastener on the band itself. The black hub-plug that connects to the mat has two banana plug sockets on one edge (which I'll call the grounding hub as it is used as one) for plugging in the wrist strap and another optional lead. The two banana sockets on the hub have no resistors between them and the black grounding wire, it's just a straight through grounding wire to the banana sockets with no resistance that I can measure, so any wrist strap and optional lead that plugs into the hub will individually need to have a resistor built in to them. The black mat 'hub-plug' has a snap fastener on one side which mates directly onto the mat's snap connector and has a 1MΩ resistor built in between the hub snap fastener and the black ground wire within the 'hub'. The poor quality crocodile clip at the end of the black grounding wire is removable due to the manufacturer putting a banana plug on the wire end, this is handy if you have a 3 pin UK grounding plug that has banana sockets but is useless if the plug is of the snap fastener connection type. That's about all I can really say about the basic and cheap 'grounding hub' and the wrist strap in this 'kit'. As for the mat, it's a basic and cheap 'static dissipative' mat that should hopefully work. You get what you pay for, if you need one for daily use or for work, then AVOID THIS and pay for a proper anti-static professional service kit from somewhere like RS Components, it will be worth the extra money in the long term, otherwise you will go through these Lindy kits faster than a bad vindaloo would go through you.
