Boo York, Boo York!
We have been very lucky and received this new movie the day before it's release day and so this has been popped straight into our DVD player and watched immediately! We have really been looking forward to this new movie from Monster High which as usual from Mattel is brilliant and myself and my family have really enjoyed it and no doubt will enjoy it very many more times! The movie has a sneak peek at the beginning of the new film that will be being released next which will be called Great Scarrier Reef and see's the Ghouls diving into the school pool with Laguna when she gets her diving license and it looks like it will be another brilliant Monster High movie. The main film starts off with Cleo and Nefera's Father announcing that they are going to Boo York for a Gala party to celebrate the return of a magical comet - from which a piece was found and kept many years ago. Cleo tells Deuce that he is to go with her (he's not keen straight away) and after the Ghoulfriends all say that they would love to go, Cleo invites them all too. On arriving in Boo York the Ghoulfriends meet the new characters Luna Mothews, Elle Eedee and Mouscedes King and Cleo's sister (Nefera) invites everyone to lunch with an ulterior motive. I don't want to give too much of the film away but I can say that Nefera wants to split Cleo and Deuce up so that Cleo is free to be engaged to another Pharaoh as this would join two Egyptian Royalty power families together and consequently give Nefera and her Father a lot more power. Meanwhile the comet that everyone is celebrating going over Boo York is actually on a collision course instead and Ghoulia is trying to work out a way to save them all and wake up the mysterious passenger inside the comet.....Another brilliant Monster High movie which teaches friendship, trust, doing the right thing and adversity over the odds. The film is rated universal and my three year old has absolutely loved it and wants to watch it again and again already. There is lots of singing and really good songs in the film with this being more of a musical style film than some of the past films and it really is a brilliant film which I can't recommend enough for any fans of Monster High. The film runs for approx 1h 9mins and has bonus episodes of 3 Ever After High Webisodes (Raven's Tale, Apple's Tale, The Tale of Legacy Day) which run for approx 21mins. There is also a sheet of temporary tattoos included with the DVD. The DVD comes with a free UV copy and a booklet with some doll advertising of the Boo York dolls and a small advert for the new Monster High film out sometime in the near future called "Great Scarrier Reef".

Entertaining musical effort- watch til the end of credits for special scene
Boo York: The musical sees our Monster High ghouls go to the bright lights to attend a special gala with the DeNile family to commemorate the passing of a pink comet, unbeknownst to the ghouls Cleo's father has plans to betroth one of his daughters to the rather boring obedient son of the Ptolemy dynasty to get richer, and big sister Nefera decides to push that onto Cleo by poisoning her and Deuce's romance. The other plot within this story is singer Catty Noir feels she has lost her inspiration and feels going to Boo York may be the ticket to get her out of her slump, and meets a handsome rapping mummy named Pharoah who reignites her passion for music and inspires him to express his freedom.Fans may be disappointed that the usual central characters (Frankie, Draculaura, Clawdeen, Ghoulia) are pretty much side players with the odd line or nodding enthusiastically and the action really centres around Catty or Nefera with occasional focuses on Cleo and Toralei. The brand new ghoul characters are fun and Luna has a musical number with Toralei and Catty which has made my daughter interested in her doll.Parents will see the 'twist' a mile off but as a whole the movie is still entertaining. The musical numbers feel familiar without being complete rip offs of modern popular songs but follow a strictly urban/rap/r&b (I don't know the latest cool way to describe it sorry I'm past it) format which leads to a rather jarring duet between Nefera and her father who suddenly adopts an American rapper voice, I think being open to different musical genres (particularly a Broadway style number for the Broadway number!) might have been a bit more creative. They aren't brilliant songs but they aren't utterly awful either, and I can no doubt see myself humming or singing along after a few replays. The trailers are Barbie heavy but include a teaser for Great Scarrier Reef. The special features are the first few stories from the Ever After High webisodes which I assume is Mattel hoping EAH will pick up more popularity amongst MH fans. I admit this isn't the best film in terms of messages to little girls as it is basically centred around romances and 'not feeling good enough' but luckily it has enough of the 'be yourself' 'work together' and friendship morals that are strong in the other Monster High movies to lift it above being vacuous and it does pass the Bechdel test a few times though in our opinion Freaky Fusion is still the best, this isn't a bad effort and my daughter was thoroughly entertained.

being able to pre order is fantastic and makes life so much easier
being able to pre order is fantastic and makes life so much easier. My daughter eagerly awaited this dvd and she was not disappointed slightly different from other Monster High story lines as this was more of a musical the songs were catchy and well sung and my daughter and her friend soon knew all the words and tunes. Well worth the buy.

Great product
I assume it's five stars, because delivery was fast and it's arrived undamaged and sealed. So that's a start. But at the end of the day, it's a Monster High film so how good can it be really? I'll ask my niece how good it is after Christmas and get back to you...
