In addition this book guides the reader though a list of recommended resources to extend and add to your WordPress website. Whether you are just setting out with WordPress or have been using it for a few years this is an invaluable How-To guide set out in plain language. All I can say is - buy this book now, you won't regret the purchase!

I used the book creating a over 150 page active website, I also gave a copy to a German lady in Athens Greece who was also working on a similar project of hers. We both found it helpful as the "backbone guidance" for creating your website project. The books strength is it gives you enough help (and confidence) to move out. When difficulties were encountered - being able to talk with another human who's actually doing the same task, - or worse case find a users group on-line to gain insight on a specific issue is very helpful to carry you beyond issues you encounter...that a book simply can't cover. Overall Review = highly recommend for folks interested in building a WordPress Website, clearly and crisply written does not get you bogged down in "techno-speak" that might well scare off a beginning / aspiring website owner.

A very basic book on WordPress, but very well written. Ideal for someone who knows nothing about WordPress and wants to get started. A very useful collection of links and also good information about plugins. The only major omission I can see is on security where it fails to tell you the most basic security measure you should take with WordPress namely renaming the wp-admin directory. I showed a friend how I could hack his WordPress site in under 15 seconds as he had not done this. Apart from that I would recommend this a a WordPress primer. I shall be keeping the book on hand for the links.

I'll keep it brief. This is not offering what I'd hoped from reading the blurb and other reviews. What I wanted was a book that would help me run a Wordpress-based website but it seems to be more geared to somebody who simply wants to run a blog site - and Wordpress has moved on from there. I'd have given it 4 stars because, to be fair, part of the above could be considered to be my fault for having expectations different from the author's intentions. However, the damned outer cover pages curl outwards (extremely, almost forming a tube), either due to humidity or the plastic lamination on the outer but it's bloody irritating, you have to leave a heavy book on top of the darned thing overnight in the hope of flattening it.

Well I never write reviews but was so disappointed by this I had to. Purchased due to feedback and have to say I'd learnt more on the web deciding Wordpress was a product I'd use. The oversized font used to pad out the number of pages made me feel like I was reading a children's book. The only positive is it had some good links but i prefer a book that surfing the web. Supplier and delivery excellent but I should ask the previous reviewers for a refund.

Excellent book. I have a couple of WP blogs but haven't been able to update them for some time. There have been new versions of WP. This book has helped me to get back to thinking 'Wordpress' taking into account changes. It really is well written; you don't have to reread sentences to understand their meaning; it has given me the confidence to go back to WP; the content is straightfoward and positive; there are few ifs, buts or maybes. Good stuff Mr Jones.

This is a relatively slim title. I was struggling with a couple of page basics and simply could not work out the solution - not for want of experimenting. The book solved the problem in seconds, as it did for a large number of other issues as well. So, this book could in my view be categorised as suitable for absolute beginners. It will not take you much further, but that is not necessarily a weakness. It does what it says on the tin, and does it rather well. I would recommend it.

Want to start a WordPress blog or web site? Then get this book. It is very well written and easy to follow. It tells you everything you need to know in plain English. Lots of great links too. You do not need to be a PHP or HTML expert to be able to use this book. I am a very experienced WordPress user and I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a comprehensive guide. Well worth the money.

A clear and useful guide for start a wp site. Great for beginners. It is very recommendable if you are looking for step by step journey.

The myth of WordPress is that anyone can make a great WordPress website in minutes with no training. That isn't true. This book is what you need to get started. The book -- available only on Kindle -- contains all the basics you need to know, from finding a domain name and web host to installing the software, to setting up a sidebar and choosing some plugins, with a special bonus chapter on getting people to visit your website. I like the fact that a lot of things that get overlooked are covered: how to log in to the admin section of your website, how to keep your site secure, how to choose a domain name. No basic issue is overlooked. Each chapter is clearly written, with step by step instructions and plenty of screenshots. It's up to date and practical, and should be comfortable reading for people with no tech background. This book is not designed for experienced users, but many WordPress users will find tidbits in here that are new to them, and at the price, there's no reason to hesitate. Chances are good that all WP users will find a new resource, a great plugin they've never tried, or a reminder of best practices they've gotten lazy about.

The WordPress platform is one of the best examples of what open, cooperative software development can create. Now in release 3.5, the platform offers a fabulous array of tools not only to build and publish a blog but also excellent content management tools that enable you to build and maintain a dynamic website. While the WordPress volunteer team has done a fabulous job in delivering a robust software platform, the project documentation, like that of many software projects, is terse and it can be a challenge for the new user to access. There are three classes of questions that are typically on the mind of a prospective new user: 1) What can I do with WordPress and why should I use it rather than another platforms? 2) How do I get a copy of the WordPress platform installed and running? 3) How do I create and maintain my first website with WordPress? Caimin Jones' new monograph, "WordPress Websites Step-by-Step," styles itself as a non-geek guide intended to help the new user get up and running on WordPress without wallowing through a lot of technical detail. In very large measure, Jones succeeds. Of the three classes of questions, Jones does an outstanding job with questions 2 and 3 (getting started, creating and maintaining). Indeed, by following the steps outlined in Jones' book, the non-technical user will very quickly be able to set up and get running his or her first website, all without writing a line of code. Many "how-to" books aimed at beginners end up being hundreds of pages long, discouraging rather than encouraging the beginner. Jones' monograph is much more compact and, in the end, much more likely to actually help the first time user than a longer treatment ever would. With the experience of successfully producing that first website, the new user may well want to explore more options and more depth; at that time the then newer user should turn to those much, much longer guides. I do think the book is a bit light on "why select WordPress?" (hence, my rating of four stars rather than five) but as long as the reader has already opted for WordPress, the reader will find Jones' book well worth the price paid.
