Solid build, still light, very reasonably priced
I searched for quite a while before settling on this, when it arrived I’m glad I did. The construction is all metal, despite some reviews claiming the clamps are plastic (perhaps this is an updated design?) and everything feels tight where it should. The stand clamp has an easy to adjust lever for tilting the boom, next to this a turn screw that secures the lower part, the telescopic part is held in place with a simple quick release - it’s strong enough to hold the pole secure without being too stiff to open or close quickly, as and when you have to adjust its length. It’s certainly capable of holding your average 400/600w head with a soft box.At the base end of the arm is the counter weight, it’s hefty (with a handy rubber end so it doesn’t mark the floor if you put it down too quick) but if you need more counter-weight the supplied sand bag helps you add more by way of a clip attached via a threaded screw to the weight. Top tip: put the sand in a plastic bag first then placed in the double zipped pouch, saves a lot of hassle!Overall a good bit of kit that feels sturdy enough to take the abuse of day to day use in its stride

Good quality
Its solidly built and an excellent improvement over my lightweight more bendy boom arms. This is 4 times more solid for twice the cost. Nicer long reach too so keeping backlight stands away from edge of frame better. Happy.

Tough and durable boom arm
With a minimum length of 89cm (35”) and a maximum extended length of 155cm (61”) the Neewer tripod boom arm is the ideal size for home studios and/or places where there isn’t a lot of space available. It is the small and compact size that attracted me to the Neewer tripod boom arm in the first instance. With a maximum payload of 5kg is more than enough for my SL100 light and 30cm x 120cm lighting setup. This tripod boom arm can be used with a variety of studio lights and light modifiers, as well as other types of photography equipment. The tripod boom arm is supplied with a 1.55kg counterweight and a sandbag (obviously empty) to provide more counter weight if you need it for your set up.The most important part of any boom arm is the tripod/light stand joint as this is the weakest part.Whilst the joint is made entirely form plastic it feels tough, durable and sturdy. Once the boom arm is placed on my light stand the knob is tightened up is a solid and secure set up. Metal joints are preferable to plastic ones but given the size and length of this boom arm, the weight of this boom arm and the maximum weight it is designed to a sturdy plastic joint is more than up to the job.Since this tripod boom arm extends there is another potential weak part, the extension joint. Like the light stand joint this joint is made from plastic but it is also tough, durable and sturdy. The extending motion is nice and smooth, and once the arm is in the right position and the knob tightened there is no movement and no slippage, i.e. it locks solid.Overall the Neewer tripod boom arm is quality bit of photography equipment and will be useful in all home studios. I use mine to get direct overhead lighting for product photography however it can be used for all different types of photography. For anyone wanting a tripod boom arm I highly recommend one from the Neewer range.Disclaimer: I am privileged enough to be part of the Amazon Vine program and as such I have the opportunity request products that I would find useful/potentially buy to road test in exchange for an honest review. I am not paid for this and all of my reviews are unbiased and based on my own personal experience using the product.

Loving this pole
Just what I needed, a lot of engineering has gone into this for the price you pay. I like I can remove the weights and the centre colom can be adjusted too. It’s all metal and some parts coated with plastic but still metal inside. Solid pole for sure

The design is simple but robust with good engineering that should last well
The following is a review of the NEEWER Tripod Boom Arm. It comes in a stout cardboard box together a 1.5kg counterweight (already fitted on) and twin zip-up sandbags (empty) plus a 1/4" screw eye and carabineer type coupling for suspending the sandbag on the end of the above weight (see photos) to aid in finely balancing the weight distribution. Both the central mounting bracket and the boom mounts are made of metal alloy, so give strength to the design. The extending boom arm is very robust in construction with the clamp made of metal instead of the usual plastic type fittings you would normally expect in such things as the plastic content overall is very minimal and shows in the weight of it. In fairness, in this case, the clamp arrangement was quite tight on its arrival but a swift twist with a 7mm spanner (see photos) soon made it more manageable and not requiring you to be a muscle-bound person to use it! The arm extends from 35 to 61 inches (89 to 155cm) and is mounted on a central pivot joint that can be adjusted into assorted angles. The boom is very easy to adjust the reach/angle - with just a sliding motion, to gain balance as its silky smooth as it slides effortlessly before you clamp it off at the desired angle. It should be pointed out that you do need a good, strong or solid stand to mount this on as it does take some weight or stress due to its very nature. While being compatible with soft-box, studio lights, flashes, umbrella, ring or oval lights - possibly a microphone - it has a quoted weight limit of 5kg maximum. We used it at our local community centre for a photographic evening and comments were all positive but at home, it provides a good overall aid to lighting and I'm glad I invested in a sturdy lighting stand a while back as that compliments this boom. The basic design is simple but robust with good engineering and should last well
