Worth a read! The genius of the book is in its simplicity!
This book is truly amazing because of the simplicity with which it explains the various musculoskeletal behaviour. Rick has nailed down the balance of being technical and yet explaining things in an easy way. The accompanying videos (links to his website) are very clear and help in carrying out the tests and exercises in a proper way.I chanced upon this after more than 6 months of living with the sciatic pain resulting from bulged discs in the lower back.Though the physiotherapy has helped me make a remarkable progress in the past 6 weeks, I was drawn to this book as I still had some unanswered questions. I struggled to understand why my gluteal sciatic pain would still persist despite some very good physiotherapy.Rick provides such a lucid explanation of things with easy to follow tests, It made me realize certain seemingly minor corrections that I need to make in my standing, sitting, walking posture that can have such profound impact on my situation. Using these tests, I was also able to acutely reproduce of the problems that I had been having.I have started following the remedial exercises. Its still early days, but it does look like it has answered some of the persistent problems. Even if the book is not able to help me get over my problem completely, its worth a read to understand what harm I had been causing to the body through seemingly negligible postural habits.

Understand your pain and fix it
Rick Olderman's 'fixing You' series of books are extremely good. Informative, practical , simple yet detailed and most importantly, they work! As a corrective exercise therapist working for 25 years trying to fix bodies with exercises, Rick's books have given me the missing links that I have been searching for in my career. It is the functional approach, the mindfulness in noticing all those unconscious movement patterns while standing , walking, sitting etc and the positive approach to taking responsibility for one's own pain free health and well being. For many years, those in chronic pain are advised to accept their pain, and to 'manage' their pain, now, with awareness and targeted exercises, many people can actually fix their pain . Thank you Rick!

Links and QR codes don’t work
A large component of this book is the bonus material which explains how to do the recommended exercises. The links and QR codes don’t work. The book isn’t all that helpful without the exercises.

Be in control
I can recommend this book to those who want to understand how their body works and develop an awareness of the movements that give rise to pain, without resorting to pain killers or surgery. Armed with the information in the book and the free videos you are able to adapt your movements to alleviate pain. I suffered from severe sciatica but, by understanding the movements that had been causing the pain and using the simple tips and exercises, the condition improved so much that it's given me the confidence to know that I can now deal with the problem myself should it recur.
