Combiner #1 - Unimpressed. Was I sold a customer return or used one?
So I get this thing in. It's double boxed and well packaged against damage... Or so I thought. I can't qualify this as a "new" unit but rather a customer return just shoved back into the sale bin without inspection. Maybe super shoddy quality control? The inner container looked as if it had been opened and resealed. As I was moving the combiner box around to take off the bubble wrap (scotch taped shut) - I could hear something banging around inside. Sure enough, the DIN mounted surge module was loose inside. It's retaining clips were broken and it looks as if the wiring was removed and tucked aside. You know, I would have been happy to have them just send me a replacement for the broken part but the closer I looked, the more I'm glad they forced me to ship it back in exchange for another. As for the rest, over-all quality was a C- at best. Granted I wasn't buying the Hope Diamond but I would at least expect the manufacturer to silkscreen their graphics straight on the cover and the makings on the bottom of the combiner box were uneven and broken up. So we'll see what the next one looks like when it gets here and I'll to a follow up and review on Combiner #2. Maybe the next one will be reasonably flawless?
