Excellent well made pencil. Great Value for money.
Excellent pencil - i use this for note taking, marking up technical drawings and sketching in the field. The pencil rotates the lead imperceptibly so that you always end up with an even stroke width when using it.Two complaints;- the eraser at the end is exceptionally small and once used it will almost certainly impede or slow down access to the lead chamber - the small covering cap is also irritatingly easy to lose. Id prefer it had no eraser in the tip and just a capping piece for the lead chamber. The topmost section of the cap is also made from plastic which is slightly lesser well made than the rest of the pencil.- the silver cap/boss at the writing end can occasionally be easy to remove while in use - not a deal breaker for me though. The tip of the pencil (where the lead exits for writing) is v sturdy and has been impacted several times by me when the pencil has been dropped - it has never broken or bent this far (touch wood). Im a klutz and this is well made for my "needs"!!I love sketching with this pencil - i know that's technically not what its for but i find the control satisfying and the point never dulls so its great for precision work.If you draw / sketch in your job this is the pencil for you!The grip is comfortable, the weight is solid and to me is well balanced. The pencil is well machined and assembled. From memory the "instructions" were mostly in Japanese and i threw them straight in the bin - i didnt need instructions for a pencil!

One Advanced Tool
The uni Kuru Toga range of Mechanical Pencil's have converted me from ink pens, I work as a graphic designer and was always having to be cautious to make sure I didn't get ink on my shirts or place my arm on a pad with fresh text put down.I picked up a standard Kuru Toga Mechanical Pencil and within 1 day of use I ordered this more solid version, the design of the Kuru Toga Engine is something you wont appreciate until you use it but once used will be hard to move away from. Being a pencil it is very versatile and works well for both writing and drafting while still having the feeling of a solid pen in hand. Would recommend to anyone who doesn't use mechanical pencils often to experiment with lead, currently I am using Pentel Ain Stein 0.5mm 2B lead which is nice and dark and glides smoothly over the paper, I also bought 4B as I wanted it as dark as possible but I find it too soft and wears down too fast for the Kuru Toga Engine to keep up and the lead isn't as sharp as it should be.The construction of this pencil is nice, the black finish is of a high quality and doesn't look too cheap. The pen is not completely metal but the plastic part of the shaft is nicely finished and appears good quality and gives the pencil a nice balance. The texture on the grip is a nice touch (similar to a dart weight) and really works well to prevent slipping.

Bargain mechanical pencil!!
Reviews are positive for this Uni mechanical pencil...so I bought one!!Very light weight, better writing notes with this than standard pencil...and it rotates as pressure is lifted off therefore rotating the lead as you go...brilliant!!

Love this pencil, it just works and I'm less worried about it breaking like my plastic one did
As the headline says, it just works and nice solid construction, comfortable to write with too, perfect weight.

Great line width.
Early days yet but i really like it. The rotating mechanism really works but as a previous reviewer has already said don't think it also pushes the lead out whilst it rotates - it doesn't, you still need to click the top to do that.1 slight niggle - i thought the whole pen was metal. The lower barrel definitely is but unless I'm mistaken the top barrel is plastic although high quality plastic. That's why I've knocked off 1 star. However it does feel nicely balanced and is a pleasure to write with. If you were drafting with this i would imagine it's just about perfect as I've had a good play with it and it definitely produces a uniform width line.Mine came from Japan so was cheaper but I had to wait 4 weeks.Overrall - I also have the Pentel Graphgear 1000 0.7mm which I give 5 stars because it's all metal and I love the weight and the design but this is a close second.

A really class pen for not a lot
I've disliked pens for a while but school has forced me to use them. But when I see A PENCIL THAT ROTATES THE LEAD AS YOU WRITE, you know that's an immediate cop.I've been using the Kuru Toga roulette for the past two days and I can tell you that the lead is sharp all around, but not symmetrical. The standard Kuru Toga engine wasn't really optimised for English because it uses longer strokes than Japanese, Chinese, or Korean. The only way you're gonna get a near-symmetrical lead is by using smaller handwriting and joining less. That isn't really a bad thing unless you write massively or in cursive. For non-cursive writers, it is an exceptional pencil for writing or drawing. The grip is comfortable for most people and the weight is nice.I'm actually getting my first lead refills, Pentel Ain Stein (HB and 2B) since this pencil is too good to dispose (or even consider disposing).Get it, no regrets.
