You have probably used a grater that looks like this and barely works. This is a different beast.
I have futilely rubbed blocks of cheese against graters that look like this grater before, bending the little 'blades' and then putting on too much pressure and busting the grater itself. Followed by wondering who they hell decided this was a better way to cut the teeth into a grater than the classic 'slip and grate some skin' graters. Maybe the nanny state just got carried away and decided graters were just too dangerous for our delicate millennial skin... But, as is often the case these days, it seems that these graters actually do work when they aren't cheap pieces of rubbish made to fit a mass market cost and not to do the job they are designed to do to a decent standard. Anyway, with that preamble over it just leaves this to say - this grater is well made, doesn't feel like its going to break and grates cheese into lovely little light flakes at a very quick rate. As it's an open design its very easy to scrape off anything left on the grater and very easy to clean. The blades must be sharp as they cut well but you can grate everything away until you are rubbing firmly on the surface with your fingers and it feel in no way as if you will be able to cut them at all. It can be hard finding kitchen gadgets that deserve their price, there are so many that are artificially inflated, the same product you can buy for 1/4 of the price with more brand marketing. This just isn't one of them, it is quite easily the best grater I have used and well worth the extra few pounds.

Quality grater
I’ve had this grater precisely 2 hours, so I promise to update my review if things go downhill over the coming months! However, first impressions count, so here goes... This is a blooming lovely grater! Seriously, the difference between this and my old grater, that has served me well for a few years but in reality gave up the ghost ages ago, is like chalk and cheese. The sturdiness is obvious as soon as you pick it up and the microplane blade is terrific. I’ve only tried it on a few bits and pieces of veg but I’m delighted with the results, giving what I’d describe as ‘fine’ gratings. As other reviewers have said, microplane offer such a wide range of blades, you need to be mindful of this when selecting the best for your needs. A couple of other things that might help new buyers. Firstly, the plastic cover it comes with is worth keeping and using to keep things safe in your utensil drawer (if you use such a thing). No need to take any stickers off this, as it’s probably quite useful to see which grater is which courseness, if you have several. As for the sticker on the back of the blade, well I’d been dreading removing it, due to the number of reviewers who’ve really struggled. I was all ready to soak it in olive oil overnight but just thought I’d have a little tug at one corner. Oh my goodness! It came straight off! What an anticlimax! 😂. Maybe microplane have changed the adhesive? Whatever, it was dead easy to remove, leaving zero residue. Anyway, as I said, I’ll update if this doesn’t live up to extended use but for now, I’m pretty delighted with what I’ve bought. Mind you, for this price, I should be!

Doesn’t come with 2 blades
This might be a bit harsh but I thought that this came with 2 blades given the pictures?! Would have been nice to have a fine and course option which I thought it included for £25. Otherwise it’s a good product

Worth the price.
Microplane have a premium price tag, but they are razor sharp. The quantity you can grate with almost zero effort is incredible vs cheaper alternatives. Used mainly for grating hard cheese over pasta dishes, the coarser grater is perfect for grating small ribbons.

Best gadget in my kitchen
I've had every style of grater imaginable. Why didn't I get this sooner? Easy to use with it's ergonomic handle and non-slip foot, and what's exceptional is it's easy to clean and store in its protective cover. Mine doesn't go in a drawer - it's on the kitchen work top ready for every eventuality. Cheese, chocolate and even cold butter butter from the fridge slide across the blades effortlessly. I wouldn't describe the grater as "course", but for me the "gratings" are the perfect size. It's such a breeze to use I want to grate everything that is edible! Can't imagine life without it! Highly recommend it for its style and quality workmanship. Worth every penny.
