My top kitchen investment
I have used it for quite a while and am sure that this Staub Dutch Oven is absolutely outstanding. Although it is a little bit heavy to be carried around, its heavy cast iron construction provides incredible, even heat retention, making it perfect for slow braising, stewing, and roasting. The unique "rainfall" lid design is a game-changer—it continuously drips condensed moisture back onto the food, resulting in unbelievably tender and flavorful dishes every time. It's remarkably versatile, going seamlessly from stovetop searing to oven baking. The durable black enamel interior is easy to clean and, with gentle care, develops a natural non-stick surface over time without any chemical coatings. It's truly built to last a lifetime. While it's an investment and requires hand-washing, its performance is unmatched. If you love cooking, this pot elevates every meal and is worth every penny. A 10/10 recommend for any serious home cook.

This is quality
Probably one of the best if not the best cast iron pots on the market. There is a reason more than 45% of Michelin star chefs use this product. When you cook with it you'll understand why. It's absolutely brilliant for cooking baking self basing heat retention it ticks all boxes

expensive but worth it
This cookware was talked about on TV, but the price did concern me how could I justify the cost, I am absolutely delighted I overcame my worries because it really is worth every penny, unlike other types of cocottes the unique lid means none of my food has dried out, whether I use it as a stock pot on top of the stove or as a casserole in the oven I don't have to add lots of water/stock, so my food flavours are more concentrated without the need to spend ages reducing it down. Because it looks good and is such good quality I have no problems taking it from the stove to the dinner table knowing that the contents will be piping hot and the food is perfectly cooked. One of the most used kitchen items, this one does not go into a cupboard.

A real jewel in the kitchen
There is not much to say for this to be honest. It is as sturdy as they come and it looks amazing as well. I have baked bread in it, cooked meat for hours, made stews and everything comes out great every time. I was a little hesitant of the black enamel when I first received it but it just does a great job. Nothing sticks to it and it creates a great fond when searing meats etc. According to their guidance you need to heat it up a little gently so we have been starting it on low for 3-4 minutes and then go only up to medium, medium-high but there is no need for more heat. Just be a little more patient until it warms up and resist the urge to crank the heat up because once it gets to temp, it is not going down!

Perfect!
Beautifully made cast iron casserole with a black interior that does not discolour. Heavy, but that is to be expected. Food cooks perfectly at a low heat owing to the excellent conduction.

Food sticking and leaking steam
First of all, almost any food I cook with it sticks to the bottom of the pan, whatever I do. I am used to stainless steel and cast iron pans, that need high heat to prevent sticking, so it's not a case of not knowing how to use the pot. Also, this is a Dutch oven, it's not supposed to be used the same way as a pan, it's all about slow cooking and braising of meats. If every time I cook some meat it sticks to the bottom and destroys my food then it beats the purpose. Furthermore, the seal of this oven is bad, it releases steam even when you press the lid hard. It makes me think that this is a bad factory second. Disappointed with my purchase

I waited months before getting this Dutch oven. I was on the fence about whether or not our household truly needed one. And since we live in a New York City apartment, we only had space for one size, so it was a 5.5-quart or 7-quart. We settled on 5.5-quart because it is Staub’s best-selling size, along with being the right size for the space we have. I chose graphite gray because it matches our household aesthetic better and goes well with Staub's silver animal knobs. The color looks great, and the glossy finish throughout the cocotte is smooth without any manufacturing flaws. Using this requires reading through a thick mini instruction manual first—if you want your cocotte to last a lifetime. Basically, preheat it on low heat for five minutes before heating it hotter; you don’t want to go from cold to high heat too quickly. There is also a good Staub video on YouTube explaining the best practices for treating this cocotte to last. Using it has been useful in certain applications. We deep-fry fries and chicken, and this retains the oil temperature a lot better than a non-stick pot. You don’t have to wait as long for oil to heat back up. We also use it for soups and find that soups seem to taste just a little better being cooked in this. Overall, it's a few months later, and I think I made the right decision to get one and to get this size. I customized mine with the Staub lobster knob. We use this at least once a week, and it is a joy to use. There is some anxiety in my head about making sure this stays spotless for all time, but that’s my neurosis. Recommended!
