fits the bill perfectly
Recently diagnosed with High blood pressure my GP advised me to monitor it at home. I tried the more basic Omron model but the cuff wouldn't go round my bicep which although slightly flattering was a bit of a pain when it popped off. I found out that this model would cater for both smaller and larger arm sizes and all you had to do was pop it round your arm, the shape is already there to be honest so sometimes I just slide my arm in, make sure the tube is at the bottom and it is about 1cm away from the crook of your elbow. Voila! it was easy peasy. Because it fits so well, is so easy to use and will alert you to any issues or problems, I am very confident when using it that the readings I get are accurate. It's a little pricier than some but I think it's a happy medium and is worth getting over the more basic models. It also comes with batteries and a little carry bag. All in all I would highly recommend it.

Simplisticly easy to use.
Simplisticly easy to use… already have one just the same. Purchased quite a few years ago. Purchased this second one, so instead of having to pay, and the logistics problem related to same, to have it calibrated… having this second one is easier. Original one has never really needed calibration, but hey ho, I like a back up of stuff. It is all round easy to use, and I thought to purchase this second one a good investment, at the price. And you don’t need to be a ‘techie’ to use it. The family need to do annual pressure readings, periodically also when needed. To do a range of them (readings) over a few days, yourself, and chart them, average them out, in the peace of own usual surroundings, is the CORRECT WAY. A ‘one off’ reading like that often done in front of a medic, is not an accurate and safe way to do it. You don’t have to be a medic to actually know this. Having researched this on the WWW, THIS IS SO. But don’t take my word for it, do your own research. It is not difficult to see the logic of these facts. I recommend this bit of equipment. RD.

Better cuff should allow for more accurate readings
The main selling point of this device compared to other devices or cheaper Omron devices (like M2 or M1 models) is the better arm cuff, which should reduce the number of false readings, occurring typically when traditional cuffs are not positioned properly. The Omron "Intelli Wrap cuff" is semi-rigid all around (standard arm cuffs only have a measurement area in one section, with the rest being fabric), and therefore can take measurements regardless on how the cuff is rotated around the arm. In addition, there is a green light on the device indicating whether the cuff is positioned properly or not. I thought that light would be active as soon as the cuff is placed, but it's only working when the start button is pressed and the cuff starts inflating. There are also two warning LEDs against SYS and DIA if the reading is above either or both of the standard numbers. Device automatically keeps in memory a number of readings. Only setting up the date and time is required as part of the initial set-up, and it's optional anyway. Device can store data for 2 separate users, but has also a guest mode for taking one-off measurements of other people. Device is easy to use and seems well made. Display is large and clear. Carry case is flimsy, but is large enough to accommodate the reader and cuff. I feel the price paid (£40) was a bit high, particularly when Amazon dropped the price by £10 two days after I bought the device.

The monitor that GPs use and the one that has been fantastic for me
At my last Diabetic review my blood pressure was high and the nurse wanted to put me on tablets for it. I am not keen on the idea and so assured her that the problem was stress and that it would come down (and I was very stressed at the time). She wanted me to return for a second test, but unfortunately (or fortunately) this was prevented by the Coronavirus lockdown. Once I had bought this monitor I could then see exactly what was happening and I loved the fact that I saw this monitor being used on 'GPs Behind Closed Doors' and I watched a programme about Coronavirus during which a medical student also used it. Being of larger proportions, I could have resented the higher price for the larger cuff, but I don't, for two reasons - that it has the additional technology in it to ensure accurate readings and the fact that it is fantastic to be able to see what is going on at home. What I discovered after a few weeks, through a combination of regular readings and trying different things, is that I was dehydrated and although I was drinking around 1.3 litres of plain water most days (although sometimes I would not maintain this), it simply wasn't enough. I was not at all thirsty, although the skin on my calves was dry, which is usually a tell-tale sign. I now drink just over 2 litres of water with infusion bags in it most days and my blood pressure has come down nicely so that it is well within the normal range, with plenty of room to spare. The top reading before I drank more fluid was 156 and now the maximum level reached is around 133. I am so pleased that I bought this monitor - I could not have deduced all this without it. Please do not underestimate that many of us are walking around dehydrated. Our sense of thirst declines with age and many of us simply will not feel thirsty. Caffeine is a diuretic and water consumption needs to be in addition to tea/coffee etc. I have spoken to someone else in the past whose blood pressure reduced when they drank water. Tragically, surgeries will prescribe medication for blood pressure and this will do nothing for the dehydration that may be underneath.
