Sangean PS-300 Pillow Speaker with In-line Volume Control and Amplifier (White)

I've been using these pillow speakers for many years. They work well and sound great. They have a volume control which makes it easy to adjust the volume rather than have to adjust the volume on your phone or other device it may be plugged into. A slight negative is that after years of use the wires become a little stiff and sometimes fray. Otherwise I will give them 5 Stars.

April 27,2021 My first.....only....review of anything. This is a very good product. Not perfect, perhaps....because of the thin wire connections between the base and the volume control. However, that can be delt with. It may seem annoying to have to do this, however, it is worth it. When you first receive your pillow speaker, remove it from the package carefully. straighten out the wires, plug it in, and test the sound and volume control. Be very careful in handling the wire where it is connected to the BASE ....speaker, and also, the volume control. After testing to confirm that it has SOUND and also good volume control, carefully apply TAPE to the wire where it connects to the speaker, and also, the volume control. Do NOT wrap the tape AROUND THE WIRE. Keep the tape flat against the wire and also where it CONNECTS into the speaker. Press gently against the tape to make certain that the tape completely "glues" against the wire and particularly against the entrance of the speaker. Make certain that the tape has a smooth flat bond against the wire and on over the top and bottom of the speaker. Add a few layers of tape.... to both the top side and "under side" of the wire and speaker. Make certain that you keep the tape FLAT. Again, carefully press and smooth the tape gently to remove any "air pockets" etc. . Add a few layers of tape to both sides gently pressing and making certain that the tape is stuck to the wire and the entrance of the edge of the speaker. I layered the tape to create a FLAT "blanket" on both sides of the tape and entrance to the speaker. I created a "patch" to hold the wire connection firmly in place where it enters the side of the speaker. The "tape patch" measures 1" x 1 1/2" . You can use any type of tape that you prefer. Just make certain that you create a firmly taped "blanket.....patch" to keep the wire from moving back and forth, where it connects to the speaker, and also where the wire connects to the VOLUME control. If the wire can't MOVE at these WEAK POINTS , the connections should last a long while. I am happy with my pillow speaker...and I purchased MORE for the future. You "never know" what the future may bring. Be prepared!! : ) : )

I got a USB C to 3.5 mm headphone thing and use this with my samsung phone. With the amplifier OFF, it's still loud enough for me using i guess a regular sized pillow (even works without a battery). With a AAA batt and amplifier ON, it's obviously louder but the more you turn it up the worse it sounds; the speaker can't handle that volume. I think for most people who don't have hearing loss (i have *some) this will be good enough to listen through the pillow. I think the speaker size is perfect. Super flat but big enough to get decent bass (when youre ear is close to it). There is also plenty of cord between the jack and the control, and the control and the speaker. Does NOT have bluetooth. Looks good. Super easy to use; standard volume knob and ON/OFF switch if you want to use the amplifier. I think it could have been less expensive but still worth it for me.

Hello, This is Hugh, Carol's Hubbly Bubbly. I just purchased my second PS-300 pillow speaker with amplifier and volume control. I use my pillow speaker every night. I am either watching a movie on youtube or listening to the BBC . This speaker works very well and does not tisturb my wife. It works well with my android and my tablet as well as my portable radio. The speaker is quite thin and smooth and when positioned correctly I fell no discomfort having it under my pillow. The volume control and amplifier and battery compartment are in-line and close enough to the speaker that they are easy to access. The single AAA battery is for the amplifier only. The speaker will still function when the battery is discharged. But for youtube you will need to use the amplifier often as the volume level on Youtube is all over the scale. The speaker is also nice for listening to audio books. I have had my first PS-300 for years. And as it turns out, it still works really well. I just had a bad bunch of AAA batteries. But that's fine I will keep this one for a back-up. The battery life will depend on how much you use the amplifier and whether or not if you can remember to shut it off when finished. In closing I would say the PS-300 speaker is a very good value. The only suggestion I would make is when removing it from under your pillow do Not Tug on the wire, reach under the pillow and grab the speaker. I think that pretty much covers it, I hope someone finds this review helpful. Cheers

My wife has tinnitus and listening to the radio on a night time in bed seems to calm it.

I am a pensioner but don't wear hearing aids - and it maybe depends on the cd player - but I've tried every pillow speaker I can find, only to conclude that they are all too quiet for me. Then I found this one with an optional in-line amplifier - What a difference! It has a quality feel about it and is powered by a single AAA battery which has so far lasted a week of being on all night - I will probably try it with a rechargeable one in the future but for the moment it is still going strong. A very pleasing purchase if it lasts as long as I do!

been using it for a couple of weeks now and have to say it is an improvement over the cheaper versions I have used in the past. the cables are well attached, the amp works great and the sound is solid. I am using it off a radio however and have no need to attach to a phone.

It has an input input impedance of 200 ohms, doubt that any smartphone can power it correctly without an amplifier. The sound is incredibly low without the amplifier, wih the built-in amplifier its ok. You'd think they would include a sensitive speaker thats easy to drive for portables, and atleast be able to power the amplifier by usb instead of a battery that probably runs out if left on while you're sleeping. Compared to my phone speaker, the volume is about 1/10. Updated review from 1 to 3 stars cause it does work as you would expect, with the amp.
