This is excellent quality hay and lasts a long time without going bad or getting bugs. You can tell it is verybfresh compared to others. It's the only one I have ordered that my bunny likes, so it's the only one I buy & it's the same great quality every time. Highly recommend.

When I received the hay in the mail, I was surprised and pleased with the size of the box. For $19.99, I couldn't believe the amount in it. Peanut (my guinea pig) absolutely loves the hay. I use his hammock to hold the hay and he will burrow himself in it and fall asleep after eating. This product is worth so much more than the cost.

I usually love Small Pet Select Hay. It usually looks and smells fresh. This is the first time I ordered the Value Choice. I read the description and learned that the only difference is the packaging; no pretty pictures. I read the reviews and they were all good, so I purchased. I was disappointed when I opened the box yesterday. It definitely wasn't like what I usually get. My rabbit wouldn't eat it. He stayed under the couch all day. I was worried he had GI Stasis, when I brought him greens and treats he would eat them. He usually loves his hay. I even put him in his hay/litter box and he hopped out and hid under the couch again. Today I tried feeding him by hand and he would literally pick the brown pieces out and toss them aside and only eat the green pieces. That's when I realized just how bad it was. It looks like I raked it up from my lawn after mowing and letting it sit in the sun. I can't believe I fed this to him. Neither can Cinnabun! I guess he was pouting. He's actually giving me the side eye. I tried to pick enough green pieces to hold him over until I can get to the feed store tomorrow. What a pain. It's in the garbage now. Hopefully he will forgive me. I went back and looked at the reviews again and noticed a new from someone else who received a bad batch in January. He called customer service and got a full refund. Unfortunately I didn't open the box until the after the return window. I just ordered it last month, but it was over 30 days. Amazon made an exception and refunded me 50%. Considering that I wasn't that far past the return window and the product was so bad and I spend at least $1000 at Amazon most months, I thought they should just go ahead and refund me the full $20, but they wouldn't budge. I feel like Small Pet Select would have gladly given me a full refund to keep me as a customer if I had ordered it directly from them. Amazon is convenient, but I will order directly from Small Pet Select from now on. Hopefully this is just a one off situation that doesn't happen again.

Edit 12-19-2025 Last 2 orders dusty and very short strands, average strand was about 3 inches! Sad for my bunnie! One order was 13 lbs in an 8 lb box but even though over weight it was unusable garbage! Got my money back to order again. 2nd order is still short strands ( maybe 5 inches) but not as much dust , still over weight by 2 pounds (2 unusable pounds!) The good boxes have strands that are on average 12 inches or longer!. This seems to happen each winter. Small pets need long strands for their teeth and over all health, dust is super bad for their eyes and respiratory health. This is the REASON I switched to Small Pet Select, the other brands were dusty short strand garbage. EDIT! 01-2024 I am subscribed for this hay and while it is the best out there the last 2 deliveries were much more dusty. Not good for our bunny. I started buying pet select because the other hays are so short and mostly junk hay. This brand is a clear winner and I hope it is just because this is the last of the winter stores of hay! This is the best! it is our first order but it is soooo much better than the other brands! The other brands have become cut so small and full of dust that it should not be considered hay. We have a bunny and the dust from the other brands affected his health. This is sweet smelling, green and long strands with seed heads. It is an enormous amount for the money! Bunny LOVES this hay and so do we. Thank you for providing this!!

Great product! Long pieces of hay and so far I have not realized any hay dust excess that need to be sifted.

For my 23rd purchase I received a poor batch of hay that contained majority dust and brown dried up hay which caused Mochi to have weepy eye. He never had any issues before, and no problem after I started picking out the decent pieces instead of giving handfuls at a time. He still loves eating this hay compared to other brands. Value & freshness I rate it a 4 but due to recent quality… overall an average 3.
