Amazing value
Just moved house (I’d had proper fitted air con put in there, so wanted something for those hot days /nights. This seemed so cheap I didn’t think it would do the job. But it’s been amazing! First one delivered was faulty but no issues replacing. The 31 degree hot days outside saw my lounge at 21! Yes they’re a bit noisy. But hey, amazing value. Top tip - DONT vent out of an open window. Put a tumble dryer style outlet in wall if you can and keep doors and windows closed. That way it can really get to work.

They work but they are noisy
I bought 2 of these and both have problems with noise. On one of them the plastic grill at the back rattles against the internal radiator and only placing a small piece of foam between the 2 parts would stop it. The second one emits a high pitched whining rattle which I have been unable to stop, there is no way you could be in a room with it for more than a few minutes, luckily I only use it to cool the upstairs down before sleep. The units are too noisy to think about trying to sleep in the same room with. Overall they do a good job of cooling the house down, but due to the noise issues I would not buy them again.

So far so good - but noisy
Seems to be very effective. I've temporarily stuffed the exhaust up an open chimney and it seems to be working fine! The unit is more compact than expected, and I was a bit worried that it wouldn't be beefy enough for this old house with its high ceilings. I needn't have worried. The room is ~50 cubic metres but the Ariston cooled it right down in 30 mins. It's not especially quiet, but I've not tried the sleep mode yet.The fan blows strongly, but only has 2 speed settings. You can turn the display off, which will be useful for overnight use.The louvres must be moved by hand, they're not motorised in any way.Lots of exhaust fitting options come in the kit, but they're-as always-for sash and sliding windows, so you'll need another solution for tip-outward windows (maybe cut a hole in a double glazing blanking panel, £38 from ebay!).The sticker says 1200w total power but it seems to be actually using less than 1000w at full power/lowest temp setting, according to my smart meter. All in all, I've got a nice cold bedroom, so happy days.Edit: now the heatwave is over, I've had a chance to give it a proper appraisal. The claim of 47.5dB is probably not true, it's not quiet at all. No offensively loud, but it is very hard to sleep in the same room, even if you find low, thrumming noises helpful! The sleep mode does nothing detectable at all. When the compressor periodically turns off, it does so with a thump that freaks my wife out. In fact I think you can actually see the unit spin very slightly! The condensate drain-off doesn't yield much water, but if you move the unit, it pours out. Be careful. I don't regret my purchase, but I doubt the Ariston has any redeeming features above the AmazonBasics one.
