Great book, lots of tips to learn/teach a vital skill.
Excellent book! I love that it had advice for parents, carers and teachers, loads of fab recipes , easy instructions and handy suggestions. There’s lots of further rescource links to help cook for and with our neurofabulous children.Cooking is such an important basic life skill and it’s so vital for everyone’s daily life. I even gifted one to my friends son to get him started young ☺️

I have mixed reviews about this book
I'm a high functioning autistic adult and the book looks great when I brought it however its extremely heavily even in paperback and has no pictures or even broken down instructions when it comes to cooking... how exactly is this autistic friendly cookbook.. don't be fooled by the title of the book... its extremely misleading and I wasted money on a book which I thought would be wonderful.. 😔

This book can help so many people!
This book is fantastic! It puts education and accessibility at the heart of it, with a whole section at the front dedicated to explaining the things that are so often taken for granted in cookbooks like different types of knives and what cup measurements are. I also love that there's a selection of symbols at the top of each recipe indicating if it's for sensory seekers or avoiders as well as a bunch of other stuff. I also love that the recipes are broken up by breakfast, lunch, dinner and miscellaneous, as this feels so much more intutative than the way cookbooks normally do it (meat, veg, sweet etc).Unlike so many cookbooks, it is softback and feels more like a novel in layout and size, meaning it's easy to flick through when you want to cook a recipe, so it's less likely to gather dust on the shelf. I also like that it has no pictures. The instructions are very clear, so you don't really need them, and not having pictures means I feel less pressure for it to look a certain way.In many ways, this book reminds me of the really old cookbooks (think: Mrs Beeton's and the like) because it explains everything from scratch. It's also got a mix of impressive and more complex recipes, and really simple recipes, meaning this really is a book for all skill levels.Ultimately, this book is fantastic. Not only is it super helpful for autistic people (like myself), but I could see this being an invaluable tool for other neurodivergent people and those with chronic conditions. You won't regret buying it.

A handy guide for my kitchen
This is not just a cookbook to me (although it is full of recipes!). It has so many chapters helping you out with things that often people just assume you know. How to figure out different measurements like teaspoons and cups, what basic equipment it is good to have on hand for cooking every day recipes, help with adaptations, ingredients and so on.Each recipe has a key with different info about the recipe like energy to make, adaptations etc. The recipes are very varied from easy to hard and breakfast to dinner and snacks.

Disappointed
I was recommended this book by my daughters OT, I’ve looked through it and couldn’t believe there weren’t any pictures of the recipes/ ingredients or step by step by instructions. Whilst I appreciate there are different support needs -a significant number of the autistic community rely on visual aids. I liked that the recipes have an effort/ energy rating but was disappointed with the sensory side. My daughter has significant sensory issues with food that it is causing nutritional deficiencies but I didn’t see that much to help with textural issues of food.

Excellent
Excellent book with useful info and a complete understanding of energy and difficulty levels. Many "one person" recipes and done in an informal/conversational tone. Very impressed.
