This volume is just what the doctor ordered. The reader will find here intelligent and useful applications of economic ideas to understanding and diagnosing current economic issues. It sees economic behavior through the eyes of the most insightful and original economists of our time. Compared to this volume, the typical principles of economics textbook will seem second hand and tame, a predigested serving of very conventional economic theories. That the economy too often plays pranks on these standard textbook theories is no great secret. Current economic issues can go deeper than these textbook theories can take us. The economists and social scientists whose ideas shape this book can help and Professor Komlos has a fine sense for ideals that elevate.

A breath of fresh air!
I teach principles of microeconomics. For years I have been looking for an introductory textbook providing a coherent, honest, and realistic approach to economics; this is no doubt that book! Being lucky enough to have received my economics training from a program offering a pluralist approach, I am well aware of the shortcomings and dangers associated with the way 'principles' of economics is currently taught. This book can easily supplement or even replace the standard material assigned in an introductory course. Economics students and the economics profession will be well served by replacing the traditional introduction to economics text with Komlos' wonderful book.

Must read to "clear the fog" from earlier econ classes! Great insight!
This is a must read for anyone who wants a deeper understanding of economics. The author does a great job in presenting concepts in an approachable, practical manner. Gives balance and insight to micro and macro principles while shedding light into what's driving much of what's happening in today's US and global economy. One of the best books I've read in a very long time! Thanks for clearing "the fog" from my earlier economic classes!

This book may be considered as a good starting point for a revolution in economics
It is more than obvious that we are approaching waves of new thinking in economic and social theory. This book may be considered as a good starting point for a revolution in economics. I have been teaching Principles of Economics and searching for such a book for more than thirty years. I would like to have it translated in Serbian for my students.Radmilo V.
