My new 2nd grade "bible"!!
I have ordered both of her books and both are FANTASTIC! This book goes in to even more depth with a focus 1 and focus 2 after the initial read aloud. Her chapters are so incredibly thought out and organized. I can literally weave them right into the standards I am currently covering. The featured and suggested read a loud books are fabulous and so far I have found them used on amazon, which saves a TON of money! I've had the chance to "test run" the manual(s) and the stories because I'm teaching summer school and I am absolutely loving them!! The students are enjoying the stories and the conversations and extension activities that go with every book.

Trust me — this is gold!
I teach 3rd grade and I absolutely love these books! They are great to support readers, introduce a new concept, mini lessons, small group lessons, etc. I am such a supporter of these publishing’s that I made the argument for our entire ELA department to get a copy! I am in the midst of writing a grant for a lot of the picture books used in these lessons!Only things I WISH were different is a connection to common core standards and better/more kid friendly support documents. I have made a lot of my own for this reason.Overall, the last 2 publishings about read aloud lessons by Maria have been some of the best purchases I have ever made for my students!!

Good for small group reading
This is a well researched book for SMALL GROUP READING. I bought it thinking I could use it for whole group literacy learning with center activity ideas but it's definitely more appropriate for small group reading. I love that she used newer titles.

The joyful merging of two power practices
In her new book, Shake Up Shared Reading, Maria Walther helps us to take a closer look at shared reading and envision how it can support and extend read aloud and maximize complimentary benefits. Maria uses her vast knowledge of read aloud and helps us to see how we can use it to "shake up shared reading" as we support students down a joyful path to independent reading. In this wonderful book Maria gives us the WHY, HOW and WHAT with reminders, text options and detailed suggestions to enrich any literacy classroom!
