Animated Science: Rocks and Minerals

My kids love this book. They fight over it (taking turns). Would like to see more! Great display and drawings. My kids are 4th and 1st grade.

Wow, this book is amazing! First, it has a handy Table of Contents, Glossary, and Index, which makes it easy to jump around in the book when looking for something specific. But this book is also browsable. The text is broken into chunks of a few sentences at a time with playful illustrations to support the text. In fact, the illustrations are one of my favorite elements. Who knew that rocks and minerals could be illustrated with personalities? And yet, Shiho Pate has done just that. And if you're a die-hard nonfiction fan like me, the idea of anthropomorphizing inanimate objects might seem to push the bounds of nonfiction, and yet, it works. Shiho has given the rocks faces, but she's also carefully researched rocks and minerals and given them shapes based on their formations and uses. It's quite brilliant. Highly recommended for readers, young and old, teachers, and librarians.

The media could not be loaded.  This book introduced all kinds of rocks and minerals in a more fun way. My daughter likes it a lot. The illustration is super cute. More like a comic book, which is more appealing to children.

Great book, arrived in less than perfect condition

I bought this book for my 9 year old grandson, who's just starting to show interest in identifying things around him. The drawings and descriptions are entertaining and accurate. I took geology way back when, and loved the course. Still, I learned new things from this charming book! It's fun to flip through. I might have to read the whole thing before I send it on, and the characters would make great graphic t-shirts. The only drawback is that even though this is a kids' book, an early or struggling reader may be overwhelmed by the information. But if you have a young rock hound in your family, this is wonderful place to start discovering all the amazing geology right beneath our feet.

The book is quality and very informative for the reader. I purchased for my grandson but I do wish they had more actual pictures rather than illustrations.

My cutie loved the comic style booklet. It had a lot of information on different minerals and stones. While the book looked larged, she finished it all in a few days.

Really informative, easy and clear to follow! Great for kids and adults too. The illustrations are great and the descriptions are designed for anyone to understand! Really fabulous book. I enjoyed reading it when my niece put it down! 😃
