My four-year-old greatly enjoys utilizing this product for their educational activities. It provides them with the opportunity to read and learn in an engaging manner that incorporates a game-like experience. The writing instrument is ergonomically designed for small hands, offering an appropriate grip and sufficient sensitivity to activate the light and sound features upon interaction with the activities.

Great learning tool!
My son loves this! Great for independent kids. The book is actually pretty thick and even has a whole math section!

Follow the recommendation for age
The purchase this for my 3-year-old the LeapFrog pen didn't work properly. The pen for the system is excellent superb however the content is too difficult for my 3-year-old so unfortunately I'm going to have to send it back. So be careful to make sure you follow the recommended age

Adult or older sibling’s help might be required for reading prompts
This workbook covers a good variety of skills in language and math that are covered during the Kindergarten school year. In the listing it is advertised as appropriate for independent learning, however I find that adult or older sibling’s involvement is required. First of all, if your child is not familiar with the Hot Dots learning system he or she must be taught to press the pen exactly on the black dot. Pressing close to the correct dot but not exactly, directly on it will result in the pen indicating that it was an incorrect answer. Also, most of the pages require someone to read the prompt to the child and in some cases (choosing between long and short vowel words for example) a demonstration of the skill might be required. The pen requires 2 AAA batteries. The batteries are not included. The pen has a volume/mute button. There are two volume settings. The pen gives sound and light feedback that indicates if the answer was correct or incorrect. The sound can be muted. My son is in Kindergarten and he likes this interactive workbook a lot. However, after the first few days his excitement for it had diminished and he doesn’t use it as much as before. I like this workbook too and find it valuable for learning and/or reinforcing Kindergarten skills but I prefer educational toys with increasing difficulty modes or settings because they can be used longer, while this workbook will be outgrown rather quickly.

I love these
This is perfect for educating our four year-old great grandson. He loves them. He has fun with them, but learning at the same time. Wish these were around when my grandkids were young enough to use these everybody should get one for their grandchildren or little ones ‘ cause they’re perfect for learning.

Would definitely be interested in newer versions or themed editions!
Good concept and the pen works great, but some of the workbook pages feel repetitive. My 5-year-old enjoys the independence of checking answers, and it does help reinforce skills. Wish there was a bit more variety or more advanced challenges. Still a solid learning tool, just not quite as engaging as the phonics set.

Great for Independent Work!
My Kindergartner loves this workbook! It’s fun and easy for him to do on his own. We’re homeschooling and it’s a great activity for him to do on his own if I need to tend to my other kids or do a quick chore. He enjoys doing it too, it’s like a game to him!
