This product changed my Life
I love it. This is by far the best hair product known to man. I usually go through about one jar every two months, but it is so very worth it. The pomade has a very subtle smell to it, maybe a little hint of vanilla in there. Not sure on that. It's easy to scoop out and apply, it holds great for classic styles like the Pompadour. I am writing this review to share how this pomade changed my life. I'm a 18 year old guy with a terrible hairstyle. I do some research about greasers and pompadours, etc. I stumble upon this legendary hairstyle and try to fix one up for myself, I go out to the store and buy a can of Murray's Pomade. This is some real petroleum based stuff we're talking about here. This Murray's stuff is NO joke. I have the cut already and get out the Murray's pomade. All goes well, or at least I thought. I got the hairstyle going, my hands feel like they have been dunked in a bucket of grease and dirty cigarettes, and I think I feel pretty decent. Later that night i was going to take a shower, I hop in and shampoo my hair, but to my dismay. The Murray's is NOT coming out o my hair. It's stuck. I begin to panic in the shower, I'm breaking down at this point after shampooing 8 times with no results. I fall to the bottom of my shower, curled up in a little ball, crying, weeping, ... I do not know who I am at this point. I finally find this product. A Water soluble pomade. Layrite Pomade. I order a jar instantly. I get the product and apply it to my hair, it's flawless, it's beautiful, it's smooth. I get the pomp up and get a nice sharp part with NO hair sticking up out of place. I am very impressed by the Layrite, I go out in town and get compliments left and right. The Layrite pomade has changed my life, after a terrible run in with Murray's, I find this gem and I find myself again. This product made me a believer. It is phenomenal. I shower and it comes out with ONE shampooing, all of it. Great. Very happy guy. I recommend this product to anyone who likes to have a great hairstyle, and a great time.

My Favorite Pomade By A Mile
I've been cycling through different hair products (mainly pomades) for a while now. Recently I've tried products like American Crew Pomade and their Forming Cream, Suavecito, and Uppercut. All those products were decent and have their merits, but Layrite is by far the best I have used and it will be the only thing I use moving forward. I have very thick hair that I like to slick back and to the side. My main problem in hair products is that the thickness of my hair makes it heavy and so it tends to fall out of place when I use pomade and slick it back. In looking for a stronger hold I first tried out Layrite's Super Hold (the one with a brown label). The hold was exactly what'd I been looking for but it also made some of the shorter hair on the side and back of my head stand out a little because it wasn't as flexible. To fix this I picked up a can of the Original Layrite. Layrite's hold is awesome. Stronger, in my experience, than American Crew, Suavecito, and Uppercut. I personally feel the shine is perfect in that it isn't really that shiny. My hair is a lighter brown so extreme shine doesn't look great on it. Definitely less shiny than Crew and Suavecito. Smell is fine but not strong which is again something I prefer. Like I said, my hair is extremely thick and I have two cowlicks that have always been huge pains. I have found that using Layrite Original to first style my hair and then supplementing that with Layrite Super Hold on the stubborn hairs around my cowlicks has created the prefect combo for my hair. For months I have been tinkering with different products and lengths to try and get the slick to look right and hold throughout the day. I was starting to feel like it was impossible with my hair but with Layrite I have finally been able to get my hair exactly how I like it. I HIGHLY recommend Layrite pomade and if you have some annoying hairs that you can't seem to keep under control then look into Layrite's Super Hold

Where has this been all my like.
As you approach 40 with a full head of hair you realize that you should be grateful for the genetics your parents have given you. However, I was apparently the product of the first human-tribble crossbreed. Every barber I have been to in the past twenty years tells me that I have the thickest hair that they have ever seen. To top it off its very straight and when dry without product it puffs out in a completely unawesome white mans fro. I have many different hairstyles and used many different products for twenty years, but nothing tamed my hair, lasted all day and washed out cleanly without paint thinner. Then I found Layrite. Simply put the product is fantastic. It is incredibly easy to work with and the style will last all day. Touch-ups only require a damp cold, but are only necessary when I have done something to mess up the hair. It's water soluble so I am able to simply rinse it out of my hair using conditioner and have had zero problems with build-up or flake. To top it off , it has a clean, classic vanilla scent.

Layrite, American Crew and Murray's compared
Alright so I've tried out a few different pomades and hair products in general and most of the time I reach for Layrite. The few products I rotate out somewhat regulaly are this, American Crew Pomade and Fiber, and Murray's original pomade. Alright so quick rundown of each product with respect to Layrite. Keep in mind I have hair on the thinner side. American Crew Pomade: - Hold is slightly less strong = Holds for a similar amount of time = Smell is slightly less strong but not as good IMO as Layrite + AC Pomade I have seen in stores, if you really need it now - More expensive = Washes out easy American Crew Fiber: + Slightly stronger hold - Sticky application, not really a big deal just unfavorable for me - Doesn't hold for as long - Odd smell, not bad, just smells a little much like a hairstyling product + Easier to find in stores in my experience - More expensive = Washes out easy Murray's: = Smell is pretty great for both, maybe a little better personally with Murray's + Definitely cheaper than all these products + Easier to find in local stores, in my experience - Slightly Sticky application - Somewhat hard to wash out if you use more than a small finger dab - Really hard to get off your hands in one wash + Excellent hold and pretty good looks So all products get used, but Layrite to me is more consistent, the hold is strong enough to last through the majority of the day, it is easy to work with and wash out, and it smells great, like a vanilla bean sort of scent although it is a tad strong for some. Murray's would be perfect if it wasn't such a pain to get off your hands, and if someone or something touches your hair its more of a task to get rid of residue vs any of the other products mentioned. AC Pomade and Fiber are both good products, I like the smell of the pomade and the hold isn't as great but still decent, although the price is pretty high. Same with fiber, although the smell is eh, but the matte look and hold are pluses for me.

Keep Calm And Grease On
I tried this product based on a recommendation from another person who also has a longer hair style with an undercut and side part. I have long, thick Caucasian hair. View pics of "Jake Gyllenhall Prisoners Movie" Prisoners online to see the style I wear, which is the one worn by Gyllenhall. Follow the instructions, work the product through your towel damp hair, gently and completely using your fingertips, back to front root to tip, then front to back, and side to side. Always root to tip. Then use a good quality comb to distribute the product and achieve your desired style. It does take some practice and experimenting to find out what works for you. I think the pomade works great, holds the style and washes out easily and it's easy to touch up during the day with a damp comb. My only issue is the pomade gives a stiff hold to my hair, despite what the description says. I would prefer a pomade that gives a more traditional soft hold like the classic pomades from the 50s/60s. The scent is light vanilla and isn't noticeable or embarrassing. I usually wear a head wrap Double Dry High Performance Dew Rag Headwrap Skull Cap at night to keep my hair neat and tangle free. On a few occasions, I went to bed without rinsing the product out of my hair and covered with the head wrap. I was able to restyle in the morning with a damp comb, although on the second day, it gives my hair more of a slick feel and appearance, however let's be honest, we're using this stuff to replicate a modern "greaser" look, so that wasn't an issue for me. I get comments and compliments on my hair and even my stylist was intrigued by this stuff. I view that as a positive affirmation of the quality of this product.

Good for style and convenience, maybe not for heavy holding
Layrite Original labels itself as a medium-hold, medium-shine pomade that "holds like wax, washes out like gel" which is fairly accurate depending on your experiences with similar products. The translucent neon orange you see in the container evenly distributes easily and leaves hair with a mild shine that looks healthy, but not greasy. I would describe the scent as pleasant but subtle requiring someone to be very near to smell it once applied. For my hair (4 to 5 inches) a pea or lima bean sized amount of Layrite is enough to keep the hair in place all day, but won't hold it down if I turn upside down. Layrite can be applied wet, dry, or anywhere between with slightly differing results depending on how much you use. Pros -Neither waxy nor gel-like feel once applied -Scent isn't overpowering -Applies to wet and dry hair -Gives low-medium hold depending on hair -Excess easily washes off hands with water Cons -Hold may not be as strong as some users are looking for Why I like it and would recommend it For the amount of hold I want, Layrite provides while still allowing me to run my fingers through my hair without getting a waxy or greasy residue. It can be applied to completely dry hair with just my hands and the excess can be rinsed off with just water or rubbed onto clothing if absolutely necessary (and not stain).

Good for the price
This is a decent pomade that does the job for about half the day unless you really apply it thick. The shine is pretty good and the hold is alright. I have found other products to offer better in both categories but are more expensive. The scent is not bad or good. It's really more odd. Kind of vanilla but not. In a pinch I would use it, but once I use up my tub, I will move on to something else. Worth trying for so little $$.

I use this daily! Great product!
Great hold. Makes for a quick, easy hair routine that looks like it took a while.
