A highly recommended educational read
To put my rating in perspective, I am relatively new to the world of digital system cameras use having been a "point and shoot" digital camera user for many years, having neglected my Canon A1s and other equipment. Now I am the happy possessor of more time and a Panasonic DMC-GH2 which has liberated my old and much loved lenses and a desire to get back into some more creative work. Allegedly, I am a computer nut and I use Linux almost exclusively.I really enjoyed reading this book. Some of the information was not new to me, having an extensive collection of books on photography already, and some pretty obvious do a DIY lover - but it is always nice to realize that you know some of the stuff and get other ideas. If, like me you are looking to move up to the next level, I heartily recommend this book. I particularly valued the information on available software, though be aware that this gets out of date quite quickly, but the book will save a lot of time by reducing fruitless Internet searching. Much as I like surfing the net and am constantly amazed at what is available, nothing gets near holding and reading a book. Finally, (hooray!!) Linux software is quite well covered - though this is a very fast moving and exciting software development area.Excellent value. It will be dipped into and re-read for quite a while.

A great resource book, but a new edition would make it even more useful
It's easy to see that the author is enthusiastic about his topic and is very knowledgeable. The first third of the book is intriguing and can be very useful. However, the last two-thirds is mostly URLs of websites. This kind of material is useful, but short lived. Ideally, the author should maintain a website for the book, where the material should be updated, but this is very time consuming and perhaps does not justify the effort. If you don't find what you are looking for in this book, try to search the Internet. For example, there are many sites that talk about how to take fisheye shots with a simple door peephole. Similarly, there are many websites and youtube videos that show how to build an inexpensive fisheye lens or how to convert a wide-angle lens to fisheye.Today, photography is cheap and popular, so there is room for a new edition of this book. I hope the author would consider this idea.

This book lives up to its title
This is a large book with over 350 pages and provides list after list of free web sites where you can do all the stuff you want to do with your pictures,He gives good advice on equipment and tell you how to use it and what lenses are his favorites and why.He tells you where to store all of your photos for free on line and where to correct them on line. The lists of free web sites is very extensive and will save you lots of money.I bought this book on Amazon for a fraction of the new price and would not be without it.But it and sit back and enjoy a good read and a profitable one as well.

Every photographer should buy this book!
This book is much more than described. It is the most useful book pertaining to digital photography that I've found. I will use this book often in the years to come, beginning with its helpful advice for purchasing a DSLR camera. The author's relaxed writing style is more like conversation than a professional guide, yet the information he shares seems is encyclopedic. Many thanks to the author!
