Dynamic Aging: Simple Exercises for Whole-Body Mobility
I**E
A must read for older adults AND for parents of young children. Wish I had had this information years ago!
Best book I have read in quite a while. All the things we were taught about shoes, exercises, what we should and should not do when we get older (50+) have been WRONG! I first suspected this when I was told by a fitness trainer that I should get a shoe that would help me balance, and that I also needed orthotics to prevent a recurrence of plantar fasciitis. It occurred to me after a while that the shoes were doing the balancing for me and that my muscles were no longer needed and not being used. In short, they were wasting away. Recently, though, my pilates teacher started talking about Katy Bowman and Dynamic Aging, and how we have been taught to avoid things as we age (obstacles in house, throw rugs, climbing ladders) and not taking ANY physical chances because our bodies just couldn't handle this any more. Well baloney and cheese (sanitized language for Amazon!)!!! I will be buying this book for my best friend and others. Just disappointed that the price has gone up so much since I bought my first copy in March, a month before Katy Bowman appeared on the Today Show...Guess that's the power of TV, but I'm so glad she is able to spread her message to a much wider audience. I also feel this book would be very useful for parents of young children, to get them started on the right (foot)path because our bad walking, exercising and standing habits were learned as kids

Awesome book, clear, conversational tone, easy to read with excellent movement plan at the end.
Excellent book. We also read the Move your DNA and I actually found the slightly simpler and well layed out format of this one to be a preferable read.We bought it as a git for my Mother In law but read it ourselves first. The book has large print that is clearly space, I suppose that is intended for the Goldener audience but I found it fantastic for being able to walk around the living room and read at the same time. Normally I buy e-books but wanted the print version which was all that was available when we purchased) for my MIL.I'm almost 39, my husband is 53 and we both got something out of this book. Every day before yoga we sit and stretch our toes. It's a peculiar sort of joy to see much improved toe spread flexibility after just a couple weeks. Cheap thrills FTWI especially loved the inspirational stories by the co-authors. So many people getting knee surgeries now a days it's soooooo nice to hear of some one who has avoided it!Anyways great read, solidifies a movement plan for anyone of any age to begin adding more movements and flexibility to life. And if you think there's someone in your life this could possibly help..just get it...it's about the price of a bottle of pain killers and much better for your loved one ;)p.s. writing this standing at my standing height desk while my husband sits on the floor at our super low table.Practice what you read!

Great (albeit repetitive) material, issues with aesthetics
Great material - although much is repetitive to other books - this is a great introduction to someone who is not already familiar with KB. I did not enjoy certain aspects of the layout aesthetics- such as the very large print (my parents found it offensive like I was insinuating something, and also felt like it was padding to make it more legitimate book length instead of booklet), and the artwork (busy and could've been simplified for easier use). I enjoyed reading the co-authors stories and found it very inspiring.

A sensationally helpful book for seniors
Over many decades of stretching and exercise, I've gathered a shelf of books on the topics and perused many others. Yet I cannot think of a more uniquely helpful book than this one . Most books of this ilk just give the reader a list of exercises, with instructions, photos, and some encouraging words. This book does much more by educating the reader about the mechanics of this/her body, what happens to it during disuse (quite different from aging, she points out), and how and why certain exercises actually work to improve matters. It's like she respects your body AND your mind too! This motivated me to do the exercises rather than procrastinate because I can now see how they work. And BTW they do! My favorite chapter is the one on feet, too often neglected in other books, which she sees as the very platfrom of standing and walking, and gives simple-to-do exercises to loosen up the dozens of joints there. Anyone, a beginning or more advanced exerciser, has much to learn from this book. The book is engagingly written and does not overwhelm you with too many dozens of exercises, but the ones that are functionally the best.

smart simple movement ideas can lead to improved health.
Clever thought out strategies to use small changes that can have major gains. I am familiar with many forms of exercise. But these movements are a new category that looks useful for incorporating in any program for a few minutes a day..using the whole day to increase moving. The evidence is strong- moving is a key for good health.

Fell Short of My Expectations
I had higher expectations for this book. There are some good tips in the book, but in my opinion, you'd be bettre off getting a good book on yoga or stretching.
