Treasured
My spouse and I loved this book so much we chose it as the only reading in our wedding, and so I completely agree that it would make a great wedding or anniversary gift. It is perhaps the best thing Twain ever wrote, because it is everything: hilarious, tragic, cynical, tender, and hopeful. Apparently, Twain started this before his wife's death and came back to it again afterwards, which I think is why there is so much passion and reflection in the story. There are earlier versions that were published in serial format and are also worth reading. In essence, this is the first and the last love story, as Eve says. And so it is also everyone's love story. The development of Adam and Eve's relationship is the main focus here, but I disagree that Twain's views about God are not here, too. Whereas Adam seems content to just follow orders, it's Eve's questioning of God and The Fall that adds such depth to the story. This piece really is about the best and worst not only of the human race, but of God as well, told in a way that makes you realize why Twain is probably the best writer this country will ever see. It's only a 45 minute read, but it's one that you'll treasure.

Perfect little wedding gift
Mark Twain's little set of journals sweetly sets out the diverse perspectives that Adam and Eve had on situations. I love the way the journals take the reader from the initial uncomfortable meeting to loving each other. Recommended reading for those contemplating 'living happily ever after'!

Hilarious
Only buy if you want to own it, which I did because it is a fun read. If you are just looking to read it, I recommend getting it from your local library because it doesn't take that long to read. Twain is brilliant in his protrayal of women as ignorant to men's feelings but disturbed when they don't get any attention. Definitely a laugh out loud kind of book.

A touching tribute
I understand that Mark Twain wrote this to celebrate his love for his wife; and according to some critics this work is his best attempt at writing in the female voice and from the female prospective. There are portions of the tale which made me laugh right out loud not only at the well crafted dichotomy between the male and female minds, but also at how well Twain was able to nail the common, and apparently eternal, misunderstandings men and women have about each other. This story is a love story, have no doubt about that, and in the hands of a master like Twain the common vision of love as a theme is transformed into a timeless commentary on discovering, adapting to, appreciating, and ultimately longing for the love of your life.

A funny, wise, beautiful book
This is Mark Twain's wonderful, funny, touching telling of Adam and Eve's days on Earth, how their love developed, how they came to name the animals... As several people have noted, this book makes an ideal wedding gift. Though it is out of print in hardcover, I would advise you to try to find a good-quality hardcover version, but a paperback will certainly suffice. The last two paragraphs are among the most beautiful and touching things I have ever read.

A Delightful Little Book
A totally charming book - I received it as a gift last year, and ordered this one to give someone else. I’ve discovered a secondary reason to loan this book out - I find it’s a great litmus test: those who lack a humor gene likely will Not enjoy this book. Likewise those who are super religious. All others will find it highly enjoyable and entertaining!

A humorous but touching book by Twain.
I came across this book via excerpts published in "The Rise and Fall of Adam and Eve" - and had to read the full Mark Twain. Twain is simultaneously lampooning the ridiculous creation myth that is Genesis, and finding a way to sensitively describe the nuance and beauty of human relationships. Very funny and touching at the same time. Very Mark Twain. Also a mirroring of the loving marriage that Mark Twain had with his eternal beloved, Olivia Langdon Twain -- one of the greatest, yet unlikeliest, of courtships in literary history.
