Wonderful product. So wonderful that i didnt even knock ...
Wonderful product. So wonderful that i didnt even knock any stars for the poor quality of packaging. Mine arrived cracked and open. But the geodes were all fine and it was such an amazing experience for the kids. My daughter is 8 and my son is five and they just LOVED these geodes. Hard to crack but not TOO hard, if you know what I mean. They got them open themselves within a few minutes and each one was different inside. Beautiful whites, clear whites, purple, blue .. WILL buy again.

Great educational item for kids
I gave these as a stocking stuffer to my 6 year old daughter for Christmas this year. She loves geography and geology. She didn't get it at first - "thanks Santa…rocks? Really?" But when I cracked them open, she must have thought I was a wizard. Beautiful crystals inside that she got to compare to the crystals listed on included paperwork. She loved them and is planning on taking for Show and Tell at school. Perhaps I didn't read closely enough, but they are much smaller than I expected. Each one is about 2 inches across. Fair warning…they are TOUGH to crack! I tried to score them first, but ended up with an 8# sledge. They broke into more pieces than I wanted, but the education was lasting and it did not detract from the thrill of it at all.

Great Purchase
Yes, the geodes are small, but not entirely a bad thing. These were my first geodes and they were fun to break, most of them got into small slices and not perfect halves. I liked that though, you can observe the inner crystals better. A bit tricky to crack open, but no matter what you should be satisfied with what you get. Bigger geodes cost way more, so this is a great bang for your buck.

Beautiful and high quality
Bought these for my son whom loves geodes. These were much better quality than I ever would have imagined. Because I wasn't sure on the quality, I bought another pack from Walmart as a backup. These were much bigger and prettier than the ones from Walmart. My son couldn't wait to go outside and break them open right away. We put them in a sock, one at a time, and tapped it with a hammer. Once we got the method down, they were easy and fun to break open. I recommend doing it on a concrete driveway or patio and have something handy to put the pieces in. My son is putting all of his on display. I have a feeling we will be purchasing more of these soon :)

Nice Geodes, Lots of Fun
We bought a few geodes while visiting a cavern, and my daughter loved them. I wanted to get some more, but I really didn't want to get her a bunch of duds. I read the reviews on several other geodes on Amazon, and this one had consistently good reviews. We were very happy with these. They were somewhat small, but we were expecting that, and it didn't matter what the size was, since they were so interesting on the inside. We had no duds in the entire box, and they were all quite hollow and just covered in crystals. My daughter loved them, and my husband, who got pulled in to help with the opening despite his best attempts to avoid the activity entirely (geodes are boring, he says), was impressed by these and another set we bought. Well worth the purchase.

Hard to Break
I love this idea, and they are pretty cool when they break open, HOWEVER, it takes some strength & pretty good amount of force to break these things open. I let my 7 year old try first & that was a no-go. Then I tried and couldn't even get it to break!! I had to smash that thing w/ a hammer with a lot of force before I could get it to break. And little pieces of rock fly everywhere too.

Geodes made a hit with my 5 yr.old granddaughter!
My 5 yr. Granddaughter loves rocks and not dolls. So for Christmas I got her some geodes. We got all ready to break them open but I told her first that these geodes came from a volcano that had blown them out and they laid in the ground for thousands of years... I also told her that she would be the very first person to lay eyes on what is inside. She was very excited and very happy to see the pretty crystals inside. We had so much fun and it was a great learning experience. Thank you so much! ( The crystals were grayish/ white and very pretty, about 3 inches in size)

Patience is key. Equipment is required for uniform split, or else they will shatter into 3+ pieces
I received about 6 or 7 3/4 inch geodes in mostly egg shapes if that makes sense. I wanted to crack these in half so i tried to use a chisel i borrowed.Didn't really work out since i don't own a vice, because of their shape they will not hold steady as you pound on it with a hammer and chisel. I tried to wrap one of the geodes in a t shirt ring and going to work on it with a hammer and chisel, but again it would not stop rolling around. Eventually i just gave two of them a good whack and they exploded into 3 or 4 large shards and a ton of smaller ones. Eye protection is recommended for children as well as adult supervision. The two medium pieces in the center are from a museum where they cracked it open for me, its a lot more uniform as you can see.It is recommended by a lot of people to use a wet/diamond saw, but the museum used some sort of vice grip machine that cracked it open in seconds. The photo doesn't really showoff the smaller crystal formations, so it doesn't look as nice.I've acquired some better equipment instead of a regular household hammer. I got myself a chisel, a nice heavy hammer, and a crappy screwdriver set. I started scoring them where i wanted the split to be. I gave it a good hit in a vertical line all around the body where ever i could. Its best to strike them when they rest as still as possible. Keep whacking at it in the same few spots and it'll eventually crack open. But watch out for shards, i recommend safety goggles. The largest uncracked one is 19.99 on amazon, the museum geode was $ 20 per Lbs. and the small ones were 14.99 on amazon.
