Loads of good information.
I purchased this book, not only for the information but for the pictures to help with my drawing class. Successful purchase!

Good Starter
It was a little less informative than I was hoping for, but it's definitely a decent starter book.

Detailed and we'll organized
Needed a book to identify trees in our woods. The descriptions were exactly what we needed.

Good for Beginners
I'm used the Peterson Field Guide for birds and thought I would try the beginner book for trees with my kids. We haven't tried it out yet. Paging through the book, I thought I would maybe find a systematic list, like taxonomic guides. Instead this book is set up like the bird book with similar species types next to each other. While the text and pictures are good descriptions of the trees, it is difficult initially to find a particular tree leaf type without paging through the book. Once we get more familiar with the book layout, I think it will be easier to find what we are looking for.

I love the photos but there aren't any photos of the trees from a distance. Just up close of the leaves and leaf joints. It's an awesome book for quick easy reference.

Great illustrations
We actually use this guide as our first line of identification. The drawings are accurate and they give specific indicators for each species.

Lots to learn
My grandson was excited when I gave him this book. Said he wanted a book on trees for when he went to camp and to learn about what he was looking at. To tell the difference between the many different trees he was seeing. I didn't know he wanted a book on trees so was pleasantly surprised when he became excited while looking at the book.

What kind of a tree is that?
Peterson First Guides to anything are perfect for the most common subject matters - easy to use and not overwhelming with too much information.

Good for kids
We take this into the woods with us (me, my 8-year-old and my 4-year-old). Its easy enough for them to use, and they get a kick out of 1) figuring out what tree they're looking at, and 2) reading about the different uses for different trees. Now we know that basswood bark can make rope!

Good book
it is a nice compact book that can be easily carried in the forest. It is a good book, but i would prefer a book that covered the geographic area that i live in, rather than all of Canada, USA. Photo's of outside bark could be beneficial as well.
