Meh.
Pros:My daughter likes it and can now reach the counter top in the kitchen to help me with cooking and putting her dishes in the sink after she eats (she's 2 years old and roughly 50 percentile in height). It's a neutral color. It's not plastic. It has storage? (why?) - I guess that's a pro even if you don't use it - just in case you might someday. It has a large surface area for my daughter to stand on. But I must mention that even with this large surface area, she stands on her toes, on the far edge just to give me mini heart attacks. While reaching for the now in-reach knife block.Cons:A bit on the heavy side, so my daughter slides or pushes it across the linoleum. She can't pick it up yet and it's a bit unweild-y so I'm glad she can't as she'd likely drop it on her toes. But it would scratch a better floor than our 60-yr old one.It came with assembly required and one screw that was totally, completely useless. I think it was stripped or something. My husband grumbled and had to go to Home Depot 2 (otherwise known as our garage) and dig another one up. But his irritation was taken out on me in that he then said he was too busy to make coffee that morning because he had to go locate some wayward screw for this stool I had to go and order on Amazon....and thus, I had to make my own coffee. Grrrrr.....It came scratched. I guess this is not a huge deal unless you have a stool that you want pictured on the cover of Sunset. But thought I should mention it in case it was a deal breaker for anyone else who might end up receiving a large scratch on their brand new stool. It gathers dust bunnies on the feet which my daughter likes to point out when I have company over and say "Uh-Oh" really loudly, pointing with her finger until we all look and I am once again disgraced as the mom who has a million dust bunnies on my floors (I am, in fact, an area winner of the "most dust bunnies in a just-cleaned house" contest. I won a mop).

Bad from day 1 & broke in 6 months
Ok, we own several kidkraft things and this so far is the worst of them. From the start it was much lighter faux-wood than I expected, from the pictures I expected a cedar color but it's blonde, very pale yellow. The top step is very slippery when wet and the whole thing is too heavy for my 4yo to lift so I ended up using it in our downstairs half bath instead of our girls' bathroom because I was worried someone would slip brushing their teeth & they couldn't push it between the toilet and sink easily. Mainly I had purchased a wood one because while I expected it to be heavier I thought it would also be sturdier and that is not the case at all. After 6 months the bottom step of this stool is breaking, seems like over time the screws loosened and the support under the step (which is not attached to the step itself) has turned over and not supporting the step at all. I didn't notice the support had moved b/c you'd have to pick it up and turn it over to see it. So without the support my girls are just stepping on the board and the screws holding it to the sides of the stool so now the board has fallen through the screws. I'm really dissapointed with this thing overall. I should've spent $10 for a plastic stool instead of $30 for a wood one. If I went with wood again for aesthetic reasons I would want one that is solid wood & not press board and had a more natural wood color to it than this one had. If you do own this one or decide to try it, I would recommend using wood glue to attach the bottom step support to the step so even if the screws begin to loosen it won't turn over, otherwise you'll probably be where I am sooner or later.

To remedy this slippery step stool situation..
Stool is built to be very sturdy. The lack of any curse words from my boyfriend while he built it suggests that it was straightforward and easily to assemble. The only drawback - and in my book, a rather big one - is that the step stool is slippery! As in it slides around on our tiled bathroom floor. As in our toddler has slipped while using it, even in bare feet.To remedy this slippery situation, I sprayed Krylon's 3400 Clear Non-Skid Coating on the steps. I initially bought anti-skid tape but was concerned that it'd be too rough on my little one's bare feet. The clear non-skid coat works great and dried clear so we can still enjoy the beautiful natural wood color of the step stool. To keep the step stool from sliding around I used 3M Scotch Rubber Pads, Black, .75-Inch by .16-Inch Rubber Pads. The pads are a little wider than the actual base, but aesthetic wise doesn't look terrible.

Not well fabricated.
Very good quality once assembled. As for the assembly: typical foreign manufactured accuracy. Pieces not sized accurately; some holes not located accurately; difficulty aligning holes for dowels; difficulty aligning holes for final screws. It’s just disappointing when something could have very easily been manufactured well, but the manufacturer didn’t hold to tight tolerances. If you have mechanical aptitude you can overcome the shortcomings of the manufacturer. Otherwise, don’t buy it.

Good buy for the money, just a couple things I'd change
The stool is very sturdy and is great for my kids to stand on while brushing teeth. For the quality of the main pieces and function it gets four stars. However, it's missing a star due to assembly complexity and 1 flimsy piece. I knew when I bought it that assembly would not be easy... but the time required to assemble it was a little ridiculous. They didn't even consistently place the pre-drilled holes, they were there about every other screw which made it a big pain. Also, the "bottom" of the storage area when you life the lid is very flimsy.... my children like to try and stand on it so I'm sure it will only be a matter of time before that breaks. Otherwise a good stool and for the money a good buy.

Very poor quality.
This is not actual wood but press board. The faux wood laminate material on it was chipped in several places upon opening and there was already apparent moisture damage in spots where the press board had swelled. The edges were all scraped and the stool looked like it had been used before it had ever been assembled. The hinge is really tight and squeaky. The bolts were really cheap metal and stripped out extremely easily upon tightening. This is not a quality product. Super disappointed especially for the price.

Bad construction and materials - avoid!
The stool is made of low density particle board, and it breaks easily when subject to any force. My 11kg toddler managed to break it by stepping on it (see pictures). This is also my second replacement after the first would not fit together correctly out of the box.Overall - avoid!!
