A quick read, not much substance
While a well footnoted piece, it seems to lack much depth into the complexity of the Soviet program. Other works shed more light into the desire to beat the west, while lacking the technology.

"Early space cosmonauts or astronauts were pioneers deserving of recognition and respect...
...when one realizes the level of unknown that these men and women faced, their status as heroes becomes even more clear." Very good book that helped satisfy my interest in space after having watched the movie "The Martian.' Touches on several topics including mention of Sputnik, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky (inventor of the rocket ship formula), first dogs in space (Laika,Belka, and Strelka), Yuri Gagarin's fateful journey followed by his premature death and much more complete with several photos. I rather enjoyed this book (and the movie) for renewing my interest in the Cosmos and what lies beyond our planet.

Accurate title, light overview
The title and description are accurate, but there isn't a lot of meat on these bones. It was worth the time, but was not in depth.

Not a proper history
Reads like a college freshman's term paper on the Soviet space program, complete with footnotes. Definitely not a detailed history. You can gather more information from Wikipedia. Charles River editors, the publisher, appears to be nothing more than a vanity publishing firm. No real book publisher would have printed this rubbish.

Five Stars
These are great short reads for when waiting in the airport!

Not worth the money or time
Not sure that the book is worth $3. A very low-information overview of the Soviet Program. I learned very little new information. This reads like an executive summary of a book, rather than a book itself.

Reads like a mediocre bachelor's thesis, does not venture beyond the 1960s
What it really does is a quick, shallow literature review of other, better-researched, and better written books on the subject. The author's original input is next to non-existent, save for some arbitrary and absolutely subjective comments. Example: "(...) Komarov died 'cursing the people who had put him inside a botched spaceship.'[146] While that is considered by many to be an apocryphal story, there's no doubt Komarov must've had those kinds of thoughts running through his mind as he met his end".

This in not a book
I paid £1.99 for something to short to be called a book. Just a brief overview of what had been wrote about the Russian space program in other books. Very disappointed.
