We bought this book because my daughter had been learning about cave paintings in school and wanted to know more about them and about ancient people. My 4 year old son has been watching a lot of outdoor shows and has gotten really interested in backcountry camping. He was excited to see some of the same tools in this book that he has learned about, like the bow drill used to start fire. He also loves the page in this book that compares the tools we use for camping now to the tools used by ancient humans. My daughter (7) loves the information about cave art and the fictionalized vignette about a young girl who defends her camp from a wolverine using a spear. There are lots of interesting details on each page of this book, so they get something new out of each read. As with all DK books, the high quality photographs make each page visually appealing. The contents show how ancient people hunted, what they ate, how they made tools, where they lived, how they developed farming skills, and what animals lived with them. It also discusses the transition from the stone age to the bronze age and iron age. This one will be sure to be a favorite of ours for a long time! Review: Engaging! - As a teacher, I haven’t seen many books about the Stone Age that I am thrilled about. I finally found one in this DK series! I love DK books in general because they have many vibrant, interesting visuals, with descriptions straight to the point. It’s easy to read and visually pleasing for my students. They love going to our classroom library and taking these books out. It’s their first choice!

Great little book
The book was smaller than I expected, but I should have paid more attention to the details. I’m so used to other books by the same people which are much larger in size. Overall the product was perfect. Lots of great information.

Don't pay extra! "Flexibound" is just paperback
I received a perfect paperback version of this book, and it's a great book, but I paid twice the amount believing that "flexibound" meant something more durable. The teacher across the hall ordered the paperback version on the same day, and these are identical products. If there was a way to request a refund of the difference I would. I don't have time to return and reorder. But it is a great book and came in perfect condition (for a paperback).

Factual book for young (or old)
I bought this book for my kids, but I really enjoy reading it with them as well. The language is clear and informative without being cutesy or condescending.

Terrible. Misleading, generalizes.
I dont understand how this book got such good reviews. This book treats different *species* of hominids who lived millions of years apart as though they all lived in the same way, in the same dwellings, and wore the same clothes. Never mind that these aspects of culture differ across time and space, as well as species. No wonder that people don't understand human history, if this is the junk they are reading. Sadly there are few childrens books about human evolution and early people. Much better than this book are "The First Drawing", "The First Dog", 'Discovery in the Cave", and "When We Became Humans ". I started to read this book to my kid and had to put it away. It's that bad. When information is wrong or grossly misleading in an educational book, I cannot tolerate it. Very disappointed in DK. It's going back and if amazon won't take it its going in the trash. The book I received also had gotten wet.
