Nice to have, would love a bigger range
I use this while making maple syrup. It works great but my only complaint is that for most of the time - until you have boiled off most of the water - the reading shows you what looks like nothing. It isn’t until you get close that you can see a bar.No idea if this is normal and it does work well when you get to the measurable range. Just would be nice to have more advance warming of when you are close.

BUYER BEWARE - PICTURES ARE DECEPTIVE
I expected to get the calibration materials pictured with the refractometer, which is why I ordered this one. Come to find out it DOES NOT come with the items pictured with the refractometer. Needless to say I'll be returning this and avoiding this seller in the future.

Sugar Count in Syrup
I use the Logic Box Sucrose Refractometer for my Birch Syrup. It needs to be 67% or better so it won't spoil quickly in the frig. I made concentrate by freezing the sap then letting it sit at room temp. The sugar part would melt first, so I was able to get a rating of 80% for my finished product. You definitely need this refractometer, if you want a really good tasting syrup.
